If you can see the movie in theatre, it's worth it.
[-] MrTattyBojangles | 3 points
Only if you're in the US or China unfortunately.
[-] ScyllaHide | -8 points
because the US is the right market to test a movie performance in the world. irony off (with its actual education ...)
[-] MrTattyBojangles | 6 points
Not sure what you're getting at regarding education. And if they're already releasing it on Netflix everywhere else, it's hardly a "test".

I was going to go see this today (thanks to Movie Pass) but I guess I can save the money on a giant drink and stay home. Thanks, dude.
After what I read about the movie I think you should better watch it on the big screen if you have the possibilitie.
Man if you've got Movie Pass please go see the film in theaters. Whatever screen you've got won't do this final act justice. Plus, every little bit helps movies like this get made
[-] UncleverAccountName | 5 points
what if I have a 135-inch screen at home and it’s not playing anywhere within 50 miles of me?
[-] Muh_Condishuns | 4 points
Some pretentious response about supporting a deservedly dying platform.
[-] midnitefox | 3 points
I was going to skip the theater version, but there are too many people in this thread saying to see it in theaters. Guess I'll user my movie pass tonight!
[-] TeflonFury | 15 points
See it for the first time in theaters honestly. The visuals and sound are so good, you'd be missing out. I feel bad for people who don't have the option.
[-] voodoomudcake | 6 points
I swear my 5 year old 1080P TV has better image quality than my local theater.
My local Cineplex theater has really washed out looking colour, and is usually dark and slightly out of focus.
[-] TeflonFury | 3 points
There's some sound design that is amazing on (good) theater-quality speakers, but that's understandable
[-] johnhenryirons | 7 points
I also recommend seeing it in theaters! Definitely a big screen kinda movie.
[-] Jimmy_Bonez | 4 points
Thanks a lot dude!
[-] lurkbender | 3 points
Wait what? Did it leak or something? Had no idea this was a Netflix movie.

became concerned that the film was "too intellectual" and "too complicated"
thats what the movie companies think about us. good to know.
the main problem is that honestly, for me its no longer appealing to sit in a cinema, i hate it, no matter how i good the movies will be.
I know taste is subjective. I see a lot of movies, and I went to see this one this past weekend. I found it to be terrible, and I figure that with the regards to the controversy, the Paramount executive was being kind to the producers of the film when he called it too intellectual or complicated.
Pretty movie. Great effects, interesting over-arching mythology, but the plot was terrible, characters were forgettable, and ultimately was not worth the time, except that with Movie Pass, I at least got to sit in a recliner and have a beer.
[-] Orest_Mercator | 6 points
You didn't like the movie?
Yeesh. Now I'm wondering if I'm just stupid for liking it. The ideas it brought up stayed with me for weeks afterwards.
And come on now, you didn't at least think the scream bear was awesome?
[-] choot_me_lauda | 7 points
subjective experience man. you enjoyed it? great. you didn't like it? also great.

We had settled the discussion, you didn't need to butt in with unnecessary shit. I wasn't even talking to you, but you decided to stick your nose in my ass and then act like I did something wrong.
Such logic. much wow!
Comments and reply are everyone to see if you didn't know that already. Just because I replied to you, it doesn't mean I wanted to talk to you. Maybe I wanted to make an observation which was in the context of your 'discussion'. If you felt that my comment shouldn't have been made, you should have just ignored it. By replying to me, you are continuing the discussion.
What's with all the salty language! You having an extra bloody period day today I guess?
Blocked you dude. Get well soon.

You seem like you're going to spend your life having one epiphany after another, always thinking you've finally figured out what's holding you back, and how you can finally be productive and creative and turn your life around.
But nothing will ever change.
That cycle of mediocrity isn't due to some obstacle.
It's who you are. The thing standing in the way of your dreams is that the person having them is you.

you took the bait lol
[-] VoiceofPrometheus | 1 points
U still dont get it. I put ur reply there randomly cos its so pretentious.
[-] Orest_Mercator | 1 points
you still don't get it. i didn't write that lol. i took it from that link i just posted
To each their own, obviously. Not saying you are stupid for liking it. But I didn't like it at all. The scream bear was a cool idea.
A lot has been made about the controversy between Paramount and the producers. Paramount has lost a lot of money lately on movies that have flopped. This is another one that technically is a flop. After it tested very poorly and before it was distributed I can see why they wanted to change the movie a bit to make more money.
[-] Muh_Condishuns | 2 points
Those ideas are new to you? Really? Not a Star Trek fan?
[-] Orest_Mercator | 2 points
No, not really. Star Trek is a bit before my time. I saw ST:Beyond with my gf, and I thought it was really cool though.
I didn't say they were new ideas. Just that they stood with me for a while afterwards. I'm a biology major, so I thought the "refraction" concept, albeit a bit silly, was really cool and executed well. It frightened me but also made me think it was really beautiful, which were emotional combinations I hadn't experienced.
[-] ScyllaHide | 1 points
one example for you, upside down was really made bad in the critics, while i still love the movie. but what makes a character forgetable? for me all characters in Transformers 4 &5 were forgetable, still it managed to pull money! so this cant be a way to measure success. Also the plot was stupid and had plot holes like a swiss cheese.
the overall problem is that people who actual enjoy an intellectual movie, dont go to the cinema anymore (without saying you are stupid or anything, its just how i see it here in my country). Why should one pay 10€ for a movie, with flat plot and only action in it, while the actual mind isnt get any piece to think about.
i have yet to watch the movie, but what i saw in the trailer was promising.
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 0 points
Just watched it. Can't fathom a person not liking it. For comparisons sake, whats your favorite movie?
That's a tough question to answer. I don't think I have a single favorite. I have movies I watch whenever they are on, I have movies that I value for their artistic quality, for acting, for plot... and that ignores genre.
Even within the genre, it's difficult. Alien/Aliens has supreme action and suspense. I know it's also a little cheesy now, but The Matrix was genre-redefining when it came out, and for some reason holds up, despite the two crappy sequels. Others in the Sci-Fi realm I thoroughly enjoy: Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road, Wrath of Khan. etc.
I don't really want to get into Annihilation spoilers in here (not sure how to hide spoilers on reddit) but would love to know what about the movie you like, so maybe I can analyze it through a different lens. Thanks for the feedback, hope to hear some constructive dialogue!
I did like Ex Machina though!
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 2 points
It's a shame too because I generally enjoy "intellectual" movies more so than your average run of the muck Hollywood blockbuster. They'll continue to make whatever the money brings in though.
[-] Muh_Condishuns | 2 points
Except now "intellectual" just means "depressing with all the color and life sucked out." Like in Ex Machina.
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 3 points
You didn’t like ex machine neither? What for?
[-] ScyllaHide | 1 points
thats my point!
[-] Muh_Condishuns | 2 points
What about "too depressing." Even though Reddit acts like that's not a thing. But the average human doesn't have nearly as much misplaced ennui. They want "Star Wars" and fun, not "Ex Machina" which plays like a Bergan film with some robots and effects.
This same material could have been presented in a less fatalist, hopeless way that the average person might be able to consume and enjoy themselves. Only Reddit wants to watch a movie and feel like crap afterward. Really, stop acting like you're better than the public for doing that, Reddit. You're deeply, clinically depressed from the entertainment you consume and you need serious help.
"but if you're doing that – you make it for that [medium] and you think of it in those terms."
wtf? does this guy not know you can have a big fucking screen and better-than-theater sound system at home, and it's not even that expensive? what is the rationale behind altering a film for home versus theater?
[-] [deleted] | 9 points
[deleted]
why does that matter, though? this is actually pissing me off. i hope this isn't a common sentiment among directors. i don't want the only copy i can ever own and rewatch being inferior to what you can see in the theaters when my own setup is similar or even better in some ways than the theater. (i don't mean in terms of image quality necessarily, but different aspect ratios/cut content or whatever).
[-] TeflonFury | 2 points
It's good on its own, but but there's some crazy impact to the audio and visual design at times.
[-] Phobos31415 | 1 points
does anyone know if netflix is showing it in 4k? Hdr? atmos?
[-] [deleted] | 1 points
[deleted]
[-] Phobos31415 | 1 points
too bad, but thanks for the info - i guess the same goes for hdr and atmos sound?
[-] Phobos31415 | 1 points
someone over at r/netflix said he can play it in 4k on Netflix! Im gonna wait a little :)
[-] [deleted] | 1 points
[deleted]
[-] Phobos31415 | 1 points
guess we'll just have to wait - some say yes, some no, some HDR
[-] johnhenryirons | 1 points
It’s not about altering a movie for home versus theater, but some films are definitely a better experience in theater. Most people do not have access to theater level equipment (4K projectors, 7.1 surround, etc.) I think Garland is just saying that certain types of movies and stories are better suited for Netflix release, which I agree with. Lots of other filmmakers agree too and want their movies seen in theaters. You’d probably be upset too if you spent a ton of time making a film and then find out that the studio thinks it’s too intellectual for people and decides to cut down the theatrical release and put it on Netflix...

[-] bigtittygothbf | 2 points
Does anyone know if a better quality version is going to be released in the future?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 5 points
This'll be the best quality version until a webrip, amazon or blu-ray encode appears (BD has no release date yet)
[-] bigtittygothbf | 2 points
Ah ok thank you very much.
[-] Phobos31415 | 1 points
ah, doesnt NTB usually offer a Webrip from the 4k Source after a while? This just seems to be the Web-DL ;) I would wait at least 24 hrs
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 3 points
~~Apparently this isn't on Netflix in 4K.~~
Some people are saying it is - if that's the case there should be 4k sourced webrips sometime in the future
[-] priyankerrao | 2 points
Will there be a bigger size? I don't mind the current video but i would love 640kbps audio.
[-] technogeist | 2 points
This is one of the best alien movies ever made, amazing that some people don't like it.
Thanks for the film, I don't think I'll ever use Netlfix ever again if that's what it will be used for starting from now.
I'm so angry that this movie didn't get a theater release in my country ! Like what the hell ?! "Too confusing for the general public" ? What kind of bullshit is that ? Is that where we're at now ? "People are too dumb for this film, let's not expose them to it, they might get a bit confused"
Fuck off Paramount !

[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 2 points

[-] bisdakexplorer | 1 points
Yay!!! Thanks!!!
I am convinced this is a webrip and not a web-dl. Earlier today I downloaded the movie from rarbg and it was a webrip that was forced into 16:9 by adding black bars on top and bottom. The movie is supposed to be 21:9. Even this file has that same issue. And they are both the same size. It's good enough for most people with 16:9 displays.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 5 points
It's an untouched WEB-DL. With the black bars cropped the image is 1920x800 which is 2.40:1.
[-] firestorminfinity | 30 points | Mar 12 2018 08:21:12
You're brilliant! International Netflix pulls through :P
Been waiting for this since I first saw it in cinemas 2 weeks ago. Recommend a large screen or sitting as close as possible.

Extremely worth my money watching this in theaters, I highly suggest to go buy a ticket just for the sole purpose of supporting the movie if you end up enjoying it.
