I use Plex on an iMac to stream all my content. Plex just makes it so easy to watch whatever I want without worrying about video or audio codecs. The iMac has an i5, I think it's from the Haswell generation, so it can quickly convert everything on the fly and in good quality. I have a Roku on each of my TVs and just use the Plex app to watch everything. It's a great setup and the ease of using it and accessing all of my content has been a godsend to my girlfriend.

Plex is a free application with no monthly fee. I have two different Roku boxes. My Roku 2 was $30 and the Roku Streaming Stick was $40. But Roku doesn't have a monthly fee and the Plex application is free on the Roku app store. So I highly recommend it to anyone.

Let me also mention that Plex does offer an optional service called "Plex Pass" that has a monthly fee. It basically offers a few more advanced features like the ability to DVR live TV and store your recordings as well as give you early access to beta versions of their applications. I just want an easy way to view my content on any TV, so I don't need this service. Just wanted to mention that it exists.

I thought I would just keep a few movies on an external, that I like to watch on the regular. Of course these days you can get a 6 TB external so that's a bit better than a 1 TB external.

Then Plex became the cornerstone of my media system, so I set up a JBoD.

Then a drive failed and I went with FreeNAS and built a server.

If you go with a laptop, I recommend getting some 7.1 headphones.

I got a fairly cheap Corsair set (software surround sound) recently and I am re-watching everything because compared to my old stereo (Panasonic) the experience is amazing.

Yep. Everything you download from Mega is encrypted, even if it doesn't need a decryption key to download.

Give me a few days to a week at least, I'm not sure what I've got and if it's complete, and I may be able to find something. I also think some of those may not have been released in digital format (at least that's how it used to be) so someone would have to scan a physical copy, and that's a crapshoot.

.rar/.001 files need extracting with archive software like WinRAR/7Zip, .sfv is to verify that the rar files aren't corrupt and can be used with SFVNinja/MultiPar.

jDownloader 2 has built in rar extraction and sfv checking if you don't want to install multiple programs

Hello, I'd like to share stuff I have and give back. I'm worried about my account traffic. Will be moving to Basic from free but that cannot be enough for all the people potentially downloading, even though I don't have megasized shares save for a very few. Could you please advise on how to best share things and how will it affect my traffic quota? Do you have the most expensive premium memberships, that being how you can afford to share? If you upload something to mega, other people getting it doesn't go against your own quota, just theirs. So no worries about running out of bandwidth for people to grab it.

So I'm using megadownloader 1.7 and it's kinda strange in the last few days, like an error occurred somehow, can't dl and can't add new links. I'm sure it's not because of the bandwidth limit. Does anyone have the same problem?

A, only 2 out of 67 antivirus engines detected it.

B, I've had multiple files that were completely clean be detected by 1 or 2 engines.

And C, I've had it installed on multiple computers for 3 quarters of a year and have never had any problems with it whatsoever.

I did a speed test on my wifi and I clocked my download speed at 161 mbps, but for some reason the top download speed I can get on mega with mega sync is 12 mbps. is there anyway to raise the download speed.

are you sure you're not getting 12 MBps? one byte is 8 bits, so 12MBps is 96mbps

When ripping on MakeMKV, it names the special features as title01, title02, title 03, etc. My question is this - Is there any website out there list lists the titles of the Blu-Ray special features? Or do you know any free Blu-Ray player software that has menu capability so I can see what the names are?

You should be able to get the menu to pop up with windows player, or there are a number of free blue ray programs. But other than that, you just have to open each one and figure it out. (I don't bother, since I don't watch the extras for the most part).

I'll try...but pretty sure WMP cannot play Blu-Ray. Most of the freebies (software) cannot support the Menu's yet. Some of the freebies want you to pay for an upgrade ($50) just to be able to use the Menu.

Not a huge deal, but just curious. High Def Digest does a great job of listing special features and you can match them by their time stamps.

Agreed,handbrake is the program to use,just be aware that encoding video is very hard on your computer.Every core will be running at 100% for hours at a time.Things get very hot.I have an old HP workstation that I only use for handbrake..

Yep, Handbrake is the way to go. Set up a folder, queue them up and it'll go at it. The only real choice you need to make is what quality you are willing to live with, as that will affect the total size.
Also, going with x264 vs x265 will have an affect on your size and time requirements (x265 needing more time by a large percent, but supposedly gives you a smaller size).

I use my laptop to sync, but it kept sleeping when the program is syncing. Because I don't download all the time, I do want my laptop to go to sleep to save the electric bill. Are there any ways I can prevent my laptop from sleeping while mega is syncing.

I'm guessing it runs some version of Windows.

If it is, then you need to find what the power management settings are that you need to set, so it doesn't go to into a power saving mode when it's working.
