The sound is good using MPC-HC. I'm guessing you're using VLC media player. It has a problem playing 7.1 audio but I think the latest version (v3.0) might work (I haven't tried it yet).

Thanks for the heads up! I went to update VLC and it said it was the latest version. But, when checking on the site, it was several versions behind and now it works fine.
