When Alexandria burned, 40 thousand copies of books were reportedly lost in the fire. That fire, that loss, is considered one of the greatest intellectual and cultural tragedies in history, doing irreparable damage to our collective human existence.

Then, 2066 years later, some dude puts almost that same amount of books in a thing you can click on and have on something no larger than a book forever.

I fucking love the future.

Trippy! You can store all this on a USB thumbdrive that you carry in your pocket. 😵

permalink

[-] Samug | 6 points | Mar 09 2018 09:45:40

You can store it and access with your god damn wrist watch, how crazy is that?

Right?! Between this post and the other huge library I'm in epub heaven.

Thanks OP!

[-] cayal3 | 12 points | Mar 08 2018 00:26:31

Unfortunately we will only ever get through like 1% of those books.

permalink

[-] Agret | 8 points | Mar 08 2018 01:13:22

Doubtful that we could get through that many

permalink

[-] dotmeat | 1 points | Mar 08 2018 11:56:15

WHICH OTHER HUGE LIBRARY? Link!

permalink

[-] anddingowashisnameoh | 11 points | Mar 08 2018 12:50:26

Hey friendo. Here is one with 15,000 books

By the same OP, this is her 8,000 book collection.

If you're into audiobooks here are some good ones.

Enjoy. These are incredible shares by these posters.

Ever have any plans to share that audiobook library? :)

permalink

Will take some time. I'm currently on limited bandwidth! Data.

permalink

[-] ArcticBeat | 1 points | Mar 10 2018 12:07:03

Ill be waiting! What sort of books have you collected?

permalink

[-] dotmeat | 2 points | Mar 20 2018 18:54:36

Fiction! Majority are horror/Dystopian Thriller/Post Apocalyptic. The good thing is though it's small it's complete with every series up-to date. I've added custom labels for everything to open in ascending order. Now I'm trying to merge all these in my own library. Filtering for a week removed almost 1500 books added another 2K. Gonna spend a lot of time sorting everything.

[-] anddingowashisnameoh | 1 points | Mar 08 2018 13:09:06

Haha well sounds like you've got the audiobooks covered!

Cheers!

permalink

[-] DV865 | 10 points | Mar 08 2018 11:02:44

Oddly I do (surprise!) lol

That's also a work in progress.

Thank you OP!

haha, How does Calibre handle a library of 37,000??

permalink

[-] DV865 | 8 points | Mar 07 2018 21:23:42

It doesn't, I only keep the ones I like in my library.

permalink

[-] ThatOneDudeHere | 1 points | Mar 07 2018 23:00:32

What do you use instead?

permalink

[-] DV865 | 3 points | Mar 07 2018 23:25:37

This is a backup of my ebook server not my own reading library.

permalink

[-] ThatOneDudeHere | 3 points | Mar 07 2018 23:31:20

I'm a weirdo. I'd still want all the meta-data and stuff in calibre or something similar.

permalink

[-] DV865 | 3 points | Mar 08 2018 00:29:15

I do also for my own library, this is just for my irc server, when I get time I'll work through them and tidy it up. I haven't got around to working through other folders of books that have the metadata but they are next to back up so I'll copy them to another Mega account and post that soon.

am I doing something wrong? Is top line the code to decrypt and the second row is the key?

Do I put https://mega.nz/ in front of both to work?

Yes Im a newbie to this

permalink

[-] DV865 | 2 points | Mar 11 2018 12:27:00

The top line is the 2nd part of the URL after https://mega.nz/ | Megalinks MegaDB https://mega.nz/

The second line is the decryption key to use in Mega.

Both need decrypting.

There's some stray books mixed in the Larry Niven folder.

permalink

[-] DV865 | 1 points | Mar 08 2018 10:49:51

Thanks, I'll go through them.

Checked and they are collaborations between Larry Niven and other authors, someone complained about path lengths so I left one copy by Larry Niven and one by the other author.

Sadly its for use on a windows server over irc and many people don't allow specific file types via DCC, plus having the recovery record is useful for serving.
