What video player do you guys normally use to play your x265 video files? I use VLC because I don't really know what else to use.
[-] Mother_Flowers | 43 points
I personally use MPC-HC, it's free, simple and seems to be better equipped at playing these files compared to VLC (at least on my side).
[-] chewy_mcchewster | 5 points
agreed.. mpc-hc natively supports every file format
*edited to remove codec pack info
why get the codec pack? mpc should play everything
[-] Synyster-_- | 1 points
^this. don't use codec packs
[-] chewy_mcchewster | 1 points
i guess it natively supports it now? way back, when mkv was brand new, i was having issues with that file format, so i always resorted to cccp codec pack, super lightweight, never any issues since.
i will edit my post, thanks

Combined with MadVR(Madshi) render.
[-] carlthescorp | 4 points
I had never heard of this even though I've been using potplayer for about a year now. Solid recommendation, thanks
[-] Moongose83 | 2 points
No worries! Let me know if you need help with setting it up.
[-] VoxPopuliCry | 2 points
What does that do?
[-] Moongose83 | 2 points
Check madvr.com. Basically it uses some algorithm of your choice to upscale/downscale the video. It can improve the quality, but can be real HW eater when set to higher settings. There is bunch of settings and improvements which you can choose from.
I use it when I play 720p videos, but I have pretty old laptop with 900p screen, so my choices are pretty narrowed. You can set shortcuts in potplayer to be able to switch between renders quickly.
[-] VoxPopuliCry | 2 points
Okay.
Will this help me, since I usually play videos on my 1080p TV, via HDMI?
[-] Moongose83 | 1 points
I guess it can. Depends on the video. MadVR installs in the folder where you execute the installation, so you can try it and see if it makes any difference and if you don't like it, you can uninstal it in a second. Extract, install, choose maadshi in video render options in potplayer. Then you'll see madvr icon in tray, when you play a video. There you can set your options. The gui is user friendly and will show you how much does each option improve the quality.
If you play remux 1080p I don't think it'll make any difference imo. This is useful just for upscaling/downscaling and enhancing the video itself.

SMPlayer works a dream.
i love potplayer bcus it lets me speed up the playback of the file (this was one reason why i loved vlc/the ability to produce extra volume but potplayer seems to play louder than vlc), which i use a ton/almost all the time lol. ill use it w/subtitles to help me when im movie or tv show binging, its awesome to cut a 1hr show down to 40 or so minutes.
mpc-hc is the best bcus it plays everything (ive had issues with potplayer not giving me audio from one file i couldnt fix for some reason but it worked in mpc-hc). i heard the new vlc/nightly build of vlc works but i havent tried it personally, my desktop is in pray that i can fix it mode atm.

K how do you download the zippy vids that are broken up into parts? Also, do they stay as separate files or do the combine into one?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 16 points
jDownloader2 is a popular choice, it can auto-extract split files when complete or you can use a separate program like winrar/7zip.
Just be careful downloading it. I downloaded it from the actual website and unchecked all the extra shit that they want to install for you (toolbars and extra adware shit). It still installed everything and I had to delete some stuff. Other than that, it’s AMAZING
[-] MY-SECRET-REDDIT | 6 points

I use Mipony free version. Just copy and paste all the zippy links into it for downloading them. It is intelligent enought to separate normal text from download links. Since each download is treated as separate, the broken parts stay separate.
[-] Iamtoxic66 | 1 points
Where's the MiPony installer that doesn't silent load your PC with adware and other shit? I got once from the link on the left panel, installed it and then did a fresh install for Windows cause of all the crap. And yes, I meticulously check installers for that crap and had everything unticked. Shouldn't even have to do that shit. Fucking bit-mining software...
As someone who has massive storage available and prefers quality over free HDD space available. Convince me to change from x264 to x265.
x265 is a number higher so that must mean it is much better till x266 arrives.
[-] TheIndianRedditor | 6 points
Read this : https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/5ty232/eli5what_the_difference_is_between_x264_and_x265/
Don't this split is great for me because I like 264 for some and 265 for others. Sometimes I need that space.
[-] Iamtoxic66 | 1 points
When I do x265 encodes there isn't any noticeable quality degradation. And then there's 10bit HEVC that raises the colors exponentially. As long as the encoder knows what they're doing and has the patience for each 24 minute long episode to take 2 hours to encode, the visual output is great.
from personal use it seems like x265 really only makes a difference if you want to try to get 15-20gb x264 stream quality with a 8-10 x265 gig file. x265 definitely makes the hugest difference the smaller you go, a 700mb 1080p x265 looks sooooo much better than the same size x264. for you it sounds like there is no reason for x265. the main thing you might like x265 for would be to shrink down cartoons/old tv shows that are only in 480p so leave u even more space for better quality items, i love that i can get a 6-8 x264 gig stream quality with a 2.5-5gb x265 1080p file since im extremely limited w storage space atm.
It happened with some of my downloads from Zippy. When I try to unzip the part files with 7zip, the process goes smoothly but at 100% extraction it shows an error which says: CRC failed "File name". I downloaded those same files again, the error still persists. I reinstalled 7zip still the error persists. Can someone please help me.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 8 points
WinRAR will tell you the name of the exact file that is corrupt, you'll need to download it again. if it's still corrupt then it's corrupted on zippyshare and needs reuploading.
[-] OtochimarU | 3 points
like igotsomegreypoupon mentioned, it is the file itself, it might have got corrupted at Zippy, you might need to ask the uploader to look into it and re-upload the specific file again.
Happens rarely to me as well, just unpack with another tool.
Can you tell me the names of those tools?

My 2015 laptop can play 1080p x265 videos just fine but it can't with 4k x265. I've used VLC and MPC to play a sample video but both programs struggle immensely with it. I'm either getting audio and no video, or the video stays stuck at one image for at least half a minute. Could it be that my laptop is too weak?
My laptop specs are: 16gb Ram, Core i7-5500U (2.4 GHz), AMD Radeon R9 M375 4GB graphics card.
[-] Iamtoxic66 | 2 points
Unless there's a firmware update for your CPU to support HEVC decoding you're gonna continue to have those issues. If you were one generation newer you wouldn't be having those issues cause Skylake came ready for HEVC decoding.

Hey guys having an issue. I use a Raspberry Pi3 b with Kodi (osmc) everything is updated. I downloaded a anime video series and it won't play. It plays fine on PC though with VLC. Please any help ?
Here is the link of what I downloaded. I know it's old but the OP hasn't responded or anyone else.

[-] OtochimarU | 5 points
It doesn't matter what video it is, you already know it plays fine, because you play it fine on your PC, the Pi might be underpowered to playback x265 at 1080p natively, try using something like PLEX server on your PC and logging in on your Pi through the browser, see if that works.
Does it play other H265 coded videos?
Hi, sorry I've not tried. I will try and find a small x265 video quickly to download and test
so i tried and its not supported. i did some searching and H265 decoder is not supported on the Pi. It requires software decoding as that's all it supports, which in the end is too much for the cpu to handle.
I know that feeling. Same on PS4.
so my question is, does anyone have a non-H265 version LOL.
[-] Iamtoxic66 | 1 points
Hi10Anime has Kuroshitsuji 720p 10bit x264 and DDLs available. You can use JDownloader2 to get the files. Anime encoders are doing 10bit HEVC now cause of the color depth improvement with 10bit and the smaller file sizes without losing visual quality thanks to the HEVC codec. But there will always be those who think of those who can't support to don't want to use thos codecs. Hope 720p is ok with you.

What am I doing wrong with this code please!? ITZNMEZSbGVpb0RDTERzcURQblRMaWc=
People who share, can you use a lite account? I have some stuff that I'd like to upload, but don't want my account to get banned or worry about running out of bandwidth.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 3 points
You can use any account but you're still subject to their takedown & termination policy - I think it's either 3 or 6. Pro accounts can also assign an amount of their bandwidth to their downloads (although probably more suited for a private forum than megalinks) but would likely be used up really quick.
If in doubt stick to registering new free accounts
If there happened to be a shut down of the subreddit, what's the plan? If there is a private reddit or discord, is it only for people who put out content?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
There's an active discord linked in the sidebar which is open to everyone - links are posted there sometimes (mostly requests). Nobody knows for sure what happens if this sub shuts down - suppose it depends if Reddit decides to play whack-a-mole with the clones that pop up. if that's the case then I'd imagine people would move to other established non-reddit sharing forums.
[-] bigtittygothbf | 1 points
Potentially a megalinks subvoat?
Hey I think I'm missing something here, but there are some times where Base64 works with decoding, but when I get stuff like this #F!JzAnzYiA it won't work, is there something else I need to do to get it to work?
[-] Iamtoxic66 | 2 points
Where' the first half or the mega link, that's looks like it's only the decryption key for mega. Is there a text hyperlink on the thread that take you to mega?
[-] infinitecogs | 2 points
Why all the H.265 encodes? Next to no GPUs support hardware H.265 decoding. For marginally smaller file sizes, you're taxing your CPU like 4x the amount the same H.264 file would use for hours at a time.
[-] bigtittygothbf | 1 points
I don't know about you but most my devices support h.265. From smart TV to a mobile phone from 2014. And since my only storage unit is a "2" TB (1.81 in actuality), I need to be careful on how big the file is, especially with TV shows with multiple season.
New here, is the only way to download big files through the desktop client?
[-] bigtittygothbf | 1 points
Make an mega account, import it to your cloud and download it through there.
Im looking to start sharing.. Do uploaders buy megalink accounts and dump everything there? Is there a free way to share?

Can you link me a website where I can read what all this means? HD4U , Bits per second, AC3 , HEVC. Im really confused
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 2 points
HD4U = Release group
Bits per second = bitrate
AC3 = audio codec (dolby digital)
HEVC = video codec (high efficiency video coding)

First time Mega user. I’ve found a link to a documentary I want to watch and downloaded the app. The doc is in another language so I need to add subs. There’s a folder titled subs, but I can’t figure out how to add them to the doc. Can anyone help?
Hello guys !! I have a dumb question..a real dumb one actually. I'm new to downloading from Mega and somehow stumbled upon this great sub..and unfortunately didn't get how to download since you guys use some sort of encoding(snahp/base64) and those sort of hashes insted of links. Can someone please help ? Thank you r/Megalinks community.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 3 points
Most links need base64 decoding, they usually look this: aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWdhLm56L0YjITBka2RqZmtz=. Decode the link and key separately. After decoding you might need to remove some letters or phrases (eg: #!Junk!#) - it's usually noted in the OP what needs to be done.
Others are link protected with snahp.it where you need to enter a captcha code or a password (usually the name of this subreddit) which will give you a link.
Remaining links will just be hyperlinks or plain text (Eg: #F!blahblah) which just needs to be copy & pasted with mega.nz put at the start.

Is it safe to use mega without a VPN?
[-] destroyallco | 35 points
No that's how you get STD's
Kind of.
Like many OCH (One click hosters), mega claims to not share your info, and it's not public like torrent.
So while you're exposed to mega, you won't be getting nasty letters unless mega decides to, or is forced to share your info.
How safe you are depends on how much you trust them. A (trusted) VPN would guarantee safety even then.

[-] Iamtoxic66 | 1 points
I got so many of those one week from a large music discography. They're so laughable. It's from copyright trolls and your ISP is doing you a service notifying you of their claim. All that letter is good for is wiping your ass. Unless your stupid enough to pay them what they're requesting and in doing that proving them with the proof they need to show you're the the guilty party. ISPs protect they're clients, they're not about to to start giving out private information. My friend is on Charter and Charter was being compelled to release a list of names associated with IP address they had. Charter stood their ground and refused to violate the user privacy.

In the US it is not illegal to download copyrighted material, it is illegal to upload it. That is why torrenting gets people in trouble, while you are downloading you are also uploading. If you only download you are technically not sharing copyrighted material, the person who uploaded it is. Could the copyright holder still come after you? They could try, and none of us wants to go to court over a free movie. The fact that Mega is https means it should be encrypted end to end so your isp knows you're downloading something but not what it is.
[-] Iamtoxic66 | 1 points
Provide us with a source to the knowledge. It's copyrighted material sold for a price, the US government considers downloading copyrighted material theft cause the user is not purchasing it. It's called the Digital Media Copyright Act or DMCA. Go to the provided link and read the answer the the 6th question. Then learn to use a search engine to fact check your BS statement.

If you're a mac user, I really recommend IINA. Essentially the MPC-HC for mac users. Really easy controls and you can adjust brightness and volume very easily, which I find is a necessity when watching movies/tv shows.
I can't access mega.nz at all, when I click on any link here I just get this and it won't go away, even after 20 minutes: https://imgur.com/a/pHSzS

What does "Remove TPOHM from link and key" mean?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
Some posters include additional words/phrases to throw off bots & scrapers
"Remove xxx" just means delete that word/phrase to get the real link. in this case, remove TPOHM when it appears in the (assumed decoded) link & key.

Why are all of my downloads using JDownloader/Megadownloader corrupted? I found a forum post from 2009 suggesting firewall settings...
I have had this happen on multiple different computers. Megadownloader worked for me for a while, then started corrupting on all my devices and then became unable to get past Mega's 5 gb limit so I forgot about Mega for a while. Now JDownloader is corrupting similarly. I'm guessing it has to do with extraction or firewall settings...

If you have static IP use VPN. Usually the americas have static IPs but depends on your contract with your ISP. If you don't, turning off and on your router changes your IP and thus allows you to bypass the cap.

Hey guys.. I've got some old Disney Channel Original Movie files I'd love to share here but I am unsure how to go about tagging the quality? Im not really all that tech friendly?? lol
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
You can get away with just tagging it as [MOVIE], although rule 4 exists I've not seen a post get deleted because it was missing format/quality info.
Would recommend including a MediaInfo file if you're not sure, that way potential downloaders can at least see the bitrate information etc. You can download it here - just open the file and export as text. copy/paste it into your post or stick it on pastebin.

thank you so much, I made my first post!

How do I use zippy share for movies when there split into several different parts ?
[-] Br00ce_Wayne | 2 points
Download all parts and extract the file using WinRAR/7Zip. If you use jDownloader 2 it'll extract it for you when it's done.

I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer
I use the MEGA app on my phone and watch movies/hear books through there but I know that there are other ways to view these links but I dont know how to download them? or if they would even work any better? (this kind of leads onto the next question)
There are some files that will not open for me on the MEGA app, it just stays a gray page with the text of what the movie is but never plays, what do I do for this? Is it because MEGA doesn't support the file (btw this mostly happens with the blu-ray editions which I really want to watch but can't)
And finally, how do I add captions to a movie? I know that some people have done that when wanting captions that aren't in the original link but how do I get around to doing that for mobile?
Many thanks to whoever answers this!

how do I remove the drm from itunes or amazon movies? how do i rip something from an online on demand service?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 3 points
iTunes DRM is removed with Requiem/Tuneskit/M4VGear. There's no public method for ripping from Amazon prime.

How does a link like this work? :

I am so lost.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
That's the file ID, add mega.nz/ to the start and paste the decryption key after.
it should look like this: mega.nz/FileID!DecryptionKey

Thank you much! You saved me from watching way too much filler episodes of a certain high-profile anime. Thanks!

so I've been using the MediaInfo files on my posts but someone said I should still add the extra data to the titles. The problem is.. I don't k now what it is. Can someone tell me what it is in the mediainfo I am looking for to provide that information?
Can anyone tell me where I can find Burden of Truth, the new Canadian drama television series? Thank you.
I would like to fund a volunteer to rip content from iTunes.
Is it ok to post it as a [META] topic?

Hi guys. A lot of stuff that I download from here is 1920x800 and it looks really weird on my laptop. Is there any way to change it to 1920x1080 without a noticeable drop in quality? I use mpv.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 2 points
What do you mean when you say it looks weird?
1920x800 is the resolution you get when cropping 2.35/39/40:1 widescreen video, if you view it full screen your media player should resize it and add black bars on the top & bottom giving you 1920x1080.
mpv doesn't really have any playback options to mess around with, try MPC-HC, MPC-BE or VLC instead
[-] RakoonBerry | 1 points
Hi. Thanks for replying. The black bars are what I'm talking about. They are a bit annoying when compared to the 1920x1080 fullscreen experience. I have tried the other players you mentioned but a lot of times, they don't really load all the types of videos I watch. An example is ordered chapters for anime. In regards to that, I've had problems with the aforementioned players but mpv plays everything very smoothly.
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
If the black bars are what you want to get rid of then you need to look into MPC's Video Frame/Pan&Scan options - these will change the video to fill your screen but you're going to either have a stretched or zoomed in image.
These are what it looks like when resized onto a 1920x1200 desktop:
[-] RakoonBerry | 1 points
Ok. I guess sticking with the black bars is better. Thanks!

Downloaded some movies earlier. I can play the mp4 files but not the mkv files. Do I have to convert the mkv to mp4?
Apple?
[-] breadcrumbs101 | 1 points
yeah, I’m trying to watch these on an iPad. I tried VLC, which works, but doesn’t have much storage. Is there an app with tons of storage that can play these files?
VLC is a media player, which is what you need to play .mkv on apple. But I fail to see what storage has to do with it since media players just play files. It is not their job to store stuff.
[-] breadcrumbs101 | 1 points
hmm, that’s weird. When I uploaded the files to VLC via WiFi, it told me I couldn’t upload another movie. I’ll try to check it out some more.
You just associate the files with vlc.So vlc is the default player for .mkv.In windows you just right click the mkv file & choose "open with" or going to control panel/programs/default programs. There must be something similar with apple. So then you just click on the files & thy play.Sounds like you are trying to stream the file.
[-] breadcrumbs101 | 1 points
When I uploaded the files via iTunes it told me that the iPad couldn’t house those files. I understand how Windows works when it opens a file, but the problem is, with Apple, you can’t host files on to your computer. I’ll just see if there are other media players on the App Store.
edit: files finally downloaded, problem resolved! thanks for your help c:
I'm having a really weird issue. For some reason all of a sudden the Megalinks files not showing up on my HDD specified folder upon completion of the download. Also, after every DL completion a popup window shows up saying if I want to close the window. I will really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Can I watch these movies without downloading them and if so how? I'm super green to all this but I managed to watch one movie somehow and any tips will be useful.
is there any place that i can download "myths & monsters" (the Netflix series), it's just not available in my country and i really wanna watch it.
Hi, I know this is a very little thing, but how do I combine files after extraction? I downloaded aa movie and it came in 10 files and 1 sfv file. How do I play this movie? Thank you!
[-] ihavenogreypoupon | 1 points
Extract the file with WinRAR or 7Zip. If you download with jDownloader 2 it should automatically extract the file.
The SFV is to verify that all the files downloaded are okay and not corrupted. jD2 has built in sfv checking but you can use a standalone program like MultiPar/QuickPar/SFVNinja

I have a Pro Lite account and a 200MB ethernet connection, yet a file I am downloading is going at 100kb/s.
Any known fixes for this please? Am using the Win 10 app downloader.

[-] Timelord_42 | 1 points
I usually download stuff overnight because I have slow internet, and I tried megasync and I woke up at 5 am to see my bandwidth limit had been reached, so I restarted my router which fixed it, is there any other downloader I can use which won't give me that error?
[-] IGotBadFriends | 1 points
So the mega app plays video but not audio. Any idea on how to fix? (Video format is .mkv)
