I haven't seen this version. But i have seen the other 2 versions of Murder on the Orient Express. And both of them are excellent.

Being a fan of the character and having liked most of the previous films, I also was intrigued. But I consider the remake pointless, and in places, absurd.

Without going into spoilers: There are gratuitious CGI shots and pointless camera swoops. Visual quotes make no sense (the big showdown). Actors I usually like embarrass themselves through uncalled-for overacting. The restructuring of the narrative doesn't work for me. And I believe the Token Black Guy was handled very poorly.

The worst offense by far is that in the remake, crucial elements of the conclusion take place outside of the train. The whole point of the novel and the 1974 movie is that Poirot and the others are trapped in a train with a murder on the loose. In the 2017 movie, characters exit and re-enter the train, Poirot even takes a stroll atop of the train.

In "modernizing" the plot, they robbed the story of essential elements.

The fact that they're doing a sequel is a bit depressing.
