If it's VLC, just select the second English subtitles, not the first ones.

I'm transferring it to watch over plex. It doesn't seem to detect any embedded subtitles.

Hii, yes that's enabled but its expecting to find a srt file containing the subtitles.

I've managed to find them but all have episode 1 and 2 bundled in one file.

Alternatively you can just extract subs from trollhd releases using mkvexract
