This thread is for general discussion only. Do
How 'Safe' is Downloading from MEGA? Should I take precautions and use a VPN whenever downloading?
Are there any best practices or tips you have to stay safe?
Downloading through Mega, either via the browser or the apps is perfectly safe. It's end to end encrypted so that you need the decryption key or else it's just viewed as Garbage data. So yes, you're perfectly safe downloading from MEGA. (as long as the file isn't tainted or corrupted)

Could an ISP not be able to see the URL of the mega link, wouldn't they get the decryption key from the url?
[-] whoison_1st | 3 points
No, anything after the / after the host name is sent after the secure connection is made thus it is encrypted.
Adding on to what /u/whoison_1st has said, your ISP would only be able to see that you are on mega.nz, it cannot see what files you are accessing or what you are downloading/uploading.

and frankly isps don't care, the reason why people get cease and desist letter for pirating is due to p2p or torrent services. out of all the peers in the swarm , in popular uploads, the company with the copyright is also a peer and records the ips of other peers and sends them to respective isps . isps only send those letters to protect themselves from liability. in reality they don't want to lose a customer and as such will never care what you download. They can only give out your info if they are provided with subpoena which will not happen to any regular person just pirating shows and movies or if they are forced by the patriot act.
Google (Fiber) has passed me hundreds of notices from using public torrents. It was worrying 10 or 15 years back when I was on Time Warner, when some people were getting sued, but they all gave up eventually. i imagine it simply costs more than they recover.
[-] uwotm8_888 | 2 points
Like i said isps dont care and companies are only looking to make an example. But as you said the cost is too much and ip address is not enough to prove guilt.

What does REMUX mean?
[-] isaacbarron02 | 4 points
REMUX is taking a blu-ray of a movie/tv show and putting it in a different container (like .mkv) whilst keeping the quality from the blu ray.

I downloaded the entire series of Evangelion about a month or two ago, and since a few minutes ago, I cant play it. Is this just a normal problem (I cant play anything else that i've downoaded either) or have they been permanantly removed thanks to some sort of Anti-MEGA program or something?
Are you playing them from your Mega account, or were they downloaded onto your computer?
[-] Moltenmelt1 | 2 points
They were downloaded onto my computer.
Video files don't expire. They may have become corrupted. That or something on your pc has changed. Are you able to play other videos?
[-] Moltenmelt1 | 2 points
The only video downloads on my computer are MEGA video files. None of the other series I’ve downloaded will play. I’m currently redownloading a couple episodes to see what happens.
What video player are you using? Are you on a laptop or a desktop or something else?
[-] Moltenmelt1 | 1 points
I’m on a laptop. My video player is the preinstalled Windows 10 Movies and TV.
Try Media Player Classic. I can't remember the last time it wouldn't play something for me.
I head that Microsoft has removed HEVC support, and it needs to be reinstalled from the store
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 1 points
fuck vlc try out mplayerx it's far superior/supports more formats.
[-] Moltenmelt1 | 1 points
Not to hijack, but sometimes I download a video and it stops in the middle and I have to skip several minutes if I want it to start again. Is that corrupted? Same film from different sources, has the stop in different spots.
Sounds like it could be, or it could be a decoding issue which may mean a shortfall with your media player or your graphics card. If it stops in the same place on multiple systems and players then it is almost definitely a file issue.
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 1 points
just pause and play. sounds like what ever player you are using is struggling to keep up with the decoding. switch players. This happened to me on vlc with higher quality encodes haven't had any issues playing anything with mplayerx.
IINA. Works better than any I’ve tried.
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 1 points
then you haven't tried mplayerx /s

Any chance we can go back to including media info? I'm seeing more and more large posts without it. It'd be useful in seeing if there's anything else (notably audio tracks) in these new 4k files that seem to be everywhere.
I'd also really like to see 1080p not go by the wayside when it comes to QXR/UTR encodes when they have releases of both. 4K is pretty demanding for some of our rigs still.
[-] SuperPhlan | 2 points
Are all HEVC 10bit uploads also HDR? I've noticed odd colors and gamma on some files (when viewed on my sdr display), they don't look like bad encodes the colors and brightness just look off.
What would be considered General Discussion? I see some requesting for help
Basically anything that is not requests for files.
I don't know. There's already a thread dedicated to help others

How is link longevity now a days?
A couple months ago, there was a big hoopla over links getting taken down quick which is why everyone began encoding their links and encryption keys and using secondary sites like links.snahp.it and others like it to store links/keys.
Have links been going down AT ALL since everyone began doing this? Anybody find their method still led to links going down and switched? For example, you used to only encode link/key but now also use secondary sites to share links/keys?
[-] Lightzmare | 2 points
Good question that got me curious so I went back into the posts history of my secondary account which I have been using to post before using this one, and found 8 months old posts to some 12 Monkeys S03 episodes: They are still up as of right now.
Have links been going down AT ALL since everyone began doing this?
Yes.
[-] IgnoreMyName | 2 points
I haven't come across any links going down but I check this sub daily and download what I want from the get go so idk if they go down at all or take some time.
I posted links for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back about a month ago and they were fine. 2 weeks ago I added Return of the Jedi and 5 days later all of them were DMCA'd. Also my first post, Ronin, was hit after 10 days. So far only those two hits have happened to me, but my posted material tends to be a little off the beaten path. If others are getting hit they haven't been complaining about it where I can see it.
Disney has real people (not just bots) patrolling the web looking for their stuff, if you dont want your disney shit taken down, you have to change your topic title to something other than the real name of the show or movie, actually its better to do it with all your stuff, because it makes it harder for those shills to find it, like this St@r W@rs
I've thought about doing that and I noticed when someone else was doing it a while back. I hesitate because mulching a post title defeats the search engine and tends to look ugly. I also don't usually post mainstream titles (which is why I was surprised when Ronin got sniped) so I'm less concerned that most of my submissions will get picked off. It wasn't a terrible surprise when the Star Wars posts were hit.
My question is, are the trolls using outside search engines to stumble across posts here or do they have someone visiting here occasionally? If they're visiting then I don't think obfuscation will help much.

How to watch a remux movie that has got a lot of files and folders, and not a single mkv file? Somebody please send me a detailed guide.

[-] arberhyseni | 1 points
Thank you sir.
I'm curious, why does mega seem to download much more than the listed size of files? Am I imagining this?
if youre downloading through a browser, mega downloads it in the browser first(real download), then downloads it to your pc(not real download). an app to measure used data may count it twice.
It uploads while you download if you're asking about bandwidth
What does it upload?
Your computer and mega's server talk to each other constantly during the download. Your computer asks for a chunk of the file, mega sends it, your computer says okay I got the chunk, then your computer asks for the next chunk, and on and on until the transfer is finished. Your computer gets the file in small pieces and it has to ask for every piece. This is why every download you do also has some uploading happening at the same time. You aren't uploading the file, you're constantly telling mega how the download is progressing.

The mega CLI has the tools you need to manage your mega storage, i think. Download megaCMD from their website.

Best Buy has a sale on 4TB Western Digital EasyStore 3.0 USB external hard drives. They normally run $199, but are on sale for $109. These are awesome little beasts.
Great deal, I also use this site for a price per GB list, unfortunately I think it only uses Amazon.
http://diskprices.com
[-] Tagliavini | 2 points
Btw... this is for the portable external, not the desktop version (I don't like desktop external hdd). That being said, the WD 8TB desktop external is currently $160, which is a great price, if you want a desktop external.
It's also at Best Buy.
[-] Tagliavini | 1 points
Thanks for the link. It's good to be able to compare price points. I've had bad experiences using traditional desktop external drives. I'm sure there are some great ones out there, but the never-ending headaches have skewered my perception. When I went looking for a new drive the sheer number of overwhelming reviews for the wd easystore (4.8/5.0) gave me some confidence to try them out.
[-] Sunny_Cakes | 1 points
They offer an 8TB version that frequently goes on sale for 160.

Did mega change the transfer quota for free accounts? I just downloaded around 7 gb but it's still going.
[-] Kill_Me_Now_World | 1 points
it's been that way for a couple weeks now. Literally downloaded some 20gb at once a couple days ago.
Using base64 encoded links, i've noticed something...
With base64, any link starting with https, once encoded, will always start with
I'm suggesting (not as a rule... do what you want...) that a way to hide
eg:
https://www.reddit.com/r/megalinks
https://www.reddit.com/r/megalinks

YWxpbmtz
ddit.com/r/megalinkshttps://www.re
ZGRpdC5jb20vci9tZWdhbGlua3NodHRwczovL3d3dy5yZQ==
It would be easy enough for users to reset the links, once decoded, but hard for crawlers to recognize links.
dropping https entirely also adds to the obscurity
linksreddit.com/r/mega
bGlua3NyZWRkaXQuY29tL3IvbWVnYQ==
But dropping the https and not rotating, will give the same problem, where every link starting with 'mega.nz' would start with 'bWVnYS5ue'. (not as big a problem as http, but could be something searchable in the future)
I know this is too much for some people but i've noticed some posters add things of their own, like bold letters, and bracketed words, which need to be removed, so i'm sure there's some people who want their links to be protected and this would add just a little more protection.
late to the discussion party so i might ask again next week, but out of all the "learn to code This Language" which one(s) are the best for some one completely new. some one who doesnt even know where to type the code into or what program to use.

For those with free Mega accounts who uploaded more than 15GB into it, has anyone experienced the deletion of files after the expiration of the 35GB account registration quota? I just realized the account registration quota has an expiry date, so I logged into one of my earlier accounts. The files are still there, although I'm wondering for how long...
[-] Lightzmare | 1 points
Nah, they don't delete... I have throwaway accounts that are like hundreds of gigabytes over quota and the files are still there and links to them accessible.
same here, but that doesnt mean the wont start doing it in the future
[-] Lightzmare | 1 points
You got a point but they've been saying that like ever since they launched the site and it never happened before (to my knowledge), so I don't think they're too preoccupied by that lol

Stupid OpenSUSE fuckers make a snapshot on every system update. So all the files I deleted in the last 2 months were never actually deleted

Where are you seeing this?
[edit] It's in the title of some anime uploads. It appears to be the name of whoever ripped it. Note in older submissions the [DB] changes to things like [a-S].

Can we stop with non MEGA download links and 3rd party uploading sites?
I mean we let Zippyshare (for some reason) fly, but anything else is pretty much trash (except maybe Google Drive but GLHF risking your account for that).
Zippyshare (for some reason) fly
lol. ZS is much better than mega.
no limits on transfer quota. only way to download remuxes posted here(w/o paying)
no speed fluctuations
if the downloads mess up, you only have to download a few mbs again, not the whole file.
[-] Lightzmare | 2 points
no limits on transfer quota
500MB max per file.
only way to download remuxes posted here(w/o paying)
For as low as 3€/mo, you can get unlimited traffic from MEGA using RD. That's 36€/yr. Ridiculous amount compared to the hundreds of hours of entertainment content you consume. But then again, if you can't afford 40€ per year, that's a whole other question.
no speed fluctuations
Didn't test ZS enough to talk about that matter for their service, but as for MEGA, speed "fluctuations" are like 1 in 1000 type of thing. Sometimes, I'll be pulling or pushing a REMUX and my speed will be crap (~200KiB/s) but a fix that has worked for me is to simply kill the process and restart it and then I'll see real speed.
if the downloads mess up, you only have to download a few mbs again, not the whole file.
MEGA supports resumable downloads via their client MEGASync (as long as it's not closed/gets crashed, as I read it here).
But I'll give you that one, it's true: the fact that files are split is nice because you can restart from some point and not the beginning.
I'll add that: I have absolutely no issues against ZippyShare, hell I was using it before MEGA to download my TV shows from DDL sites before getting into private trackers.
The problem is just people using 3rd party uploading services who push the content on shitty ass file hosts like RG, and whatnot.
That's it.
no limits on transfer quota
500MB max per file.
thats not what transfer quota means. it means the amount you can download before mega throttles your speed. as for paying, i dont need to becoz ZS provides the same thing for free.
[-] Lightzmare | 2 points
I know what transfer quota is, I was merely showing the two against each other. While ZS does not have limitations as to how much you can download, they (try to) refrain how much you can upload (in one file).
as for paying, i dont need to becoz ZS provides the same thing for free
Oh, nothing is ever entirely free... You take something, you gotta give as well... Maybe not money in that case, but in other ways.
But that's an entirely different topic.
Well each one has his preferences. What matters is that you are happy with your setup.
[-] Lightzmare | 1 points
True that!
What's your problem with file distributors
[-] Lightzmare | -2 points
Last I checked this is /r/megalinks, not /r/filedistributorslinks.
MEGA is reliable and fast. Why branch out to other sites like you did?
Worse even, you're using hosts like Rapidgator... Come on, now... Get serious.
Is this an attempt to go back to 2010? Either do things right, or don't do them at all.
So, you are pissed because people do that when most have slow upload speed unlike your 10MB upload speed?
[-] Lightzmare | 0 points
because people do that when most have slow upload
How is uploading to RG faster than MEGA? If anything MEGA is going to be faster?
Plus, that's besides the point: Again, this is a place for sharing links of files hosted on mega.nz
.
Please, feel free to open your sub where you'll share content hosted on whatever site you feel like uploading to.
This sub is a great place but everyone decides to act like you do, we're heading straight into chaos.
Lol, do think uploading to RG is worth doing so directly? That's why file distributors are helpful. What you're asking is something that'll take the entire sub community to decide. You can't just make a rule out of nowhere and have everyone follow it
Wait, do you own stock with mega and sound like shill promoting it?
[-] Lightzmare | 2 points
Did you sign a partnership with all the worst file hosts possible?
[-] rnishouldbestudying | 12 points | Jan 30 2018 15:20:38
I noticed there has been a large absent of new tigole/utr movies posted here lately. Probably because they split to qxr. We need to make this more known so we can pick back up where we left off. You can find their new uploads under qxr on 1337x
