Go watch sunshine. Interstellar is my #3 or #4, after sunshine, moon, and alien.
Sunshine is kinda like moon to oblivion. Same-ish story, but imo better, lower budget, and a few years earlier.

Oh hey moon is in my top 3 along with interstellar and Martian :D

Anyone cares to explain me the point of Remux and 70gb files? Aren't those way transparent anyway? Wouldn't a 10gb HEVC file be enough.

permalink

[-] OGJimmy | 25 points | Jan 23 2018 21:07:33

4k non Remux HEVC movies are around 35-60GB, so no a 10GB one wouldn't be close to transparent and very low bitrate.

Depends on how high bitrate the 10GB movie is compared to the Remux version, most of the time you'll see differences especially during fast moving or action scenes. Remux is as close to a retail BD version as you can get.

permalink

[-] odellusv2 | 23 points | Jan 23 2018 21:14:35

people that want the best quality possible. 10 GB for a 169 minute 4K film would be laughably terrible looking.

permalink

[-] jojo_31 | 3 points | Jan 24 2018 11:42:48

You'd laugh at what quality some people want. My Friend bought a 4k TV, he doesn't want to watch 4k movies on it, he just bought it "for the future" when everything will be 4k. Except 4k is already there, except for all the shitty TV channels that are in 720p. I really have no clue as to why people watch TV, just the amount of ads... Not on demand... idk. So he would have rather watched a movie that he already knew as a 720p YIFY instead of Dunkirk 1080p RARGB HEVC...

"People" who if you set them in a room in front of a 70 inch probably couldn't tell the difference between a 70gig and 15gig 4K movie when sitting at normal view distance.

Or most of you are watching it on 24 in computer monitors so it doesn't matter anyway.

permalink

[-] Puptentjoe | 12 points | Jan 23 2018 23:23:03

I don’t know who the population is you are talking about but yeah when I watch it on my 55 inch OLED I can tell the difference. Nothing wrong with wanting the best quality. I went for the lower quality back in the day and now that I finally have a good tv those copies suck hard so I make it a point to get the best I can now. Better use up some space than be stuck with a bad rip.

permalink

[-] banankontakten | 5 points | Jan 23 2018 23:22:13

It will be even easier to tell when something is low bitrate on a computer monitor since you're sitting closer and analysing it even better.

permalink

[-] jojo_31 | -14 points | Jan 23 2018 21:30:36

nah. if it's a good encode you won't notice a difference, except if you have a gigantic screen maybe

permalink

[-] odellusv2 | 12 points | Jan 23 2018 21:35:01

you just asked if 10 GB for a 4K movie would be enough, i don't think you know what a good encode is.

permalink

[-] ScyllaHide | -4 points | Jan 23 2018 22:47:29

but hey Netflix does compress pretty nice and still has a good quality in 4K i think.

permalink

[-] odellusv2 | 2 points | Jan 25 2018 00:11:28

most of netflix's stuff fails pretty hardcore in dark scenes.

66.4GB!? Holy crap!

permalink

[-] sosoandless | 5 points | Jan 24 2018 01:20:12

Extracting this is giving me issues. I keep getting files missing errors I think it might have to do with not all the files following the same naming convention. Anyone else having issues? https://i.imgur.com/uplswW3.png files 1-48 have a different name to the other files leading to what I think is what is causing the issue.

permalink

[-] Cqouta | 5 points | Jan 24 2018 01:32:00

You're gonna need to rename 1-49 to

Interstellar [4K Remux]

I am in the process of renaming them from the servers, so this won't happen to others

permalink

[-] OnePieceZoro | 3 points | Jan 24 2018 01:57:50

So there are suppose to be 375 files but after I downloaded them all there were only 369 so 6 of them are missing. Like he said part120 is one of them.

What files are missing?

permalink

[-] dysphorics | 3 points | Jan 24 2018 03:53:45

It appears that parts 362 and 355 are the ones missing from the zippy.

permalink

[-] Cqouta | 2 points | Jan 24 2018 04:19:48

Errors occurred during distributed upload. Mega has it only for part355 and so did part362 userscloud only has it

permalink

[-] dysphorics | 1 points | Jan 24 2018 04:44:28

yeah, I already checked that and downloaded those, working on extracting it and got a corrupt part 163, re-downloaded it and extracting it again. Hopefully there won't be any more corrupt parts for me.

permalink

[-] Cqouta | 1 points | Jan 24 2018 05:04:38

The upload contains file recovery for some Rar files, so there shouldn't be a problem

permalink

[-] dysphorics | 1 points | Jan 24 2018 06:42:27

Yep, It appears to work just fine while skipping around it after extracting it with 7zip. The first time I used WinRAR and it said that

E:\JDownloader\Interstellar [4K Remux]\Interstellar [4K Remux].part163.rar: Packed data checksum error in Interstellar [4K Remux]\Interstellar 4K2160.mkv. The volume is corrupt

I tried a second time with WinRAR and it completed the extract then spit out the error message again, but the file appeared fine and playable while skipping around it. I still decided to try with 7zip and that seems to have done it just fine without any errors.

I won't be watching the movie in full until probably tomorrow night so hopefully, there are no corrupt frames.

Thanks for the upload.

[-] debian420 | 1 points | Jan 24 2018 22:57:58

Oh Oh oh oh oh I get it, I was being an idiot. Your upload isn't two different rips of the movie, it's one. So the 1-48 with that first naming scheme are just the same as the 1-48 with the other one. There's also no part 120 in the mega links, but I think you answered this in the comments so I'll go find it.

Sorry if I sound like an ungrateful bitch or anything, like, I kid you not, much of the reason i Bought a 4k TV was for just this movie, so I appreciate it ... a lot. =)

permalink

[-] odellusv2 | 5 points | Jan 24 2018 10:15:11

man of steel's digital intermediate is 2K. interstellar was shot on 35 and 70 mm film, all VFX was done at 4K or 5.6K for IMAX, digital intermediate is 4K for the bluray. this is the cream of the crop as far as 4K goes.

They look extremely bad. It's because you took them while playing it on a non-HDR screen. Playing HDR content on a non-HDR screen makes everything look washed out and distorts colors.

man of steel doesn't look good on a UHD disc either. Barely an upgrade from 1080p.

permalink

[-] odellusv2 | 3 points | Jan 24 2018 10:17:07

in terms of resolution there is no difference between the UHD and FHD releases of man of steel; the benefits of the UHD version are better audio and HDR.

In case someone appears here later who is as stupid as I am, I'd just like to point out that I did everything right, made sure I had all 375 files (got most from mega, realized some were missing and got the rest from zippy), but nothing I did would open the archive. Anyway, eventually I noticed I was running version 9.0 of 7zip which I apparently downloaded back in 2009 or something. Update fixed it, everything works, I'm an idiot.

Edit: BTW, the unrared file is 66GB as claimed. However, the rars themselves require 75GB worth of downloading. I'm not sure how using compression software managed to increase the file size so significantly, but that's what happened. Maybe has something to do with redundancy provided by part files.
