Snahp.it pop-unders are starting to come up with malware drive by installation attempts and unclosable pop-under windows. Guess I have start sand-boxing snahp.it links. Sadness.
I haven't run into that but my various Firefox extensions might be suppressing it. You might want to try NoScript or uBlock and see if they put a stop to it.
[-] MasatoWolff | 1 points
Haven't had any problems with uBlock and Malwarebytes premium.
Was the download limit removed? I just downloaded a 25+ GB file in one go with MegaSync.

ISPs here in my country (Philippines) are starting to be tight about piracy. I've read in the website of my ISP that they would terminate your account without notice if they catch you downloading torrents or something. Would they know if I'm downloading pirated content from mega or zippyshare?

Most requests seem to be asking for the highest quality possible. Why is x265 better? When I download shows from rlsbb I usually just grab the smallest size for convenience/quicker download (a 22 min show can be 100 mb or so) and don't really notice the quality as being noticeably crummy. What is the benefit in having HUGE files of bluray quality for most people? Sure, if I'm watching Shape of Water, I want the picture and color to be clear and sharp but if I'm watching a sitcom or whatever who really cares? Am I just a plebeian who doesn't get it?
[-] Qrusher14242 | 3 points
i like x264 better just because i can play it. Nothing i have setup can do it (raspberry pi and firestick). I mean they are better cause they are smaller than x264, but i just have no use for them.
x265 has a lower 'floor' than x264. For example, if I was encoding a half hour sitcom and wanted to use the lowest bitrate I could before the picture was noticeably affected, I would use x265. This article does a comparison using animation - once the bitrate falls below a certain amount the x264 rip loses details while the x265 rip does not. x265 also encodes frames more efficiently than x264, as illustrated here. The file size savings of x265 over x264 tends to fall into the 20%-30% range but some people argue about it.
And I agree with you, in that once an encode gets above a certain bitrate the differences tend to vanish and it becomes a wine-tasting contest - everyone experiences it differently. Further, this article argues that at higher quality settings x265's file size savings tend to diminish (scroll down to Conclusion near the bottom of the page.)
x264 is preferable if you want to encode quickly or have the widest compatibility. If you're concerned about keeping file sizes smaller and encoding time wasn't an issue, you would choose x265. Or you could choose GPU encoding, for either x264 or x265, which cranks out encodes in a fraction of the time that CPU encodes require but with an unavoidable hit on quality.
What is the benefit in having HUGE files of bluray quality for most people?
For movies, if that someone loves the content but can't buy the blu-ray they probably value a large rip quite a bit. Otherwise, I don't see the sense in downloading and storing a 35+GB rip of something like Intertselllar when I can buy the blu-ray for $10.
For tv, the question gets harder. I have a blu-ray set of a favourite show from my childhood and there have been requests for it to be posted. But it's 56 episodes, each an hour long. If I rip them I want them to look as good as they can. I also want to keep the file size down so it won't take an eternity to encode and upload. I haven't yet come up with an answer I'm happy with, so I haven't done anything with it.
When thinking about ripping a television show, two 1-hour long episodes adds up to the same length as a movie. Do I encode at the same rate as I would for a movie or I do I reduce it to keep the collective file size down? 5GB for a movie results in a good looking rip but 2.5GB for a single hour of tv would probably turn most people off. That's where I get stuck.
I'm used to getting RARBG WEBRips for my tv shows, but have gotten too many copyright notices and now looking elsewhere. The things they do to try to make us watch those dumb commercials...Anybody here post RARBG stuff? Or know of a MEGA site that does? Thank you.

Explain like I'm five. Some of the movies on here consist of multiple files of 200MB, and as I'm fairly new to this sub and don't know a whole lot about computers, I'd appreciate it if someone could explain to me how to make that stuff work. Right now I have no idea how to open these and it tells me to open it with internet explorer and that doesn't work.
If you use Jdownloader to download them from Zippyshare (when Zippyshare links are available) it will automatically decompress the files for you after the download finishes.
[-] scubvadiver | 2 points
are they .001, .002, etc? you can either use winrar or my personal goto 7zip to extract those.
It is easiest to use jdownloader2 to download those multiple zips/rars.It will extract them for you when they are all down. The reasons for the multiple rars is there is a file size limit with zippyshare of 500Mb,it was 200Mb until a couple of months ago,so big files have to be split up.If you have already got some files down just right click on "part 1" & extract with 7-zip or winrar & they will extract all of the rars & stitch them together for you.I seems quite daunting but it is pretty easy really. You really need jdownloader2 & megadownloader or megasync & a few mega accounts if you are serious about downloading from here & snahp.it.Makes life a lot easier.
I want to learn more about WEB-DL, like how it works, which websites people download from, the DRMs used and similar things.

Hi!
I don't know if this is the place to ask this or should I create a meta thread. Sorry in advance.
I'd like to ask what it is that I should look for when comparing two different rips of the same content. Is it ALL about the bitrate? high bitrate = better? I have a 4k 50" Samsung Tv (entry level, KU6000 series) and use Plex + Nvidia Shield to play my content, I'm not really super picky about video quality.
For example, I think 13-15gb is a great size for a 1080p movie rip. Am I wrong?
I already have a 1080p Dunkirk rip and just saw that someone uploaded a 4k version of it. How can I know which one's better?
Can anyone give me some references or some tips/places to read about this without getting too complex? I'm interested but I'm almost clueless.
Thanks a lot!
It is a personal thing, the quality of rips.I like my movies at 6-8g on a 50" 1080p TV.I will sometimes go to 13-15 g but only for something that has great visuals or if I can't find anything in my preferred range I would rather go up than down. But that doesn't mean that I am right & you are wrong. It also doesn't mean that I will not change my opinion next month.
[-] juditasdude | 2 points
Thanks for your reply! now I think 6-8gb is a great size for 1080p movies, but since my tv is 4k and I'm playing through the nvidia shield, I have to consider the upscaling from 1080p to 4k right? that's the shield's job I guess.

Just imported files to my mega account. They are there as zips and when I tap on them, they just say the title of the zip followed by data. Trying to get to the videos that they supposedly hold. What am I doing wrong?
[-] indigo6alpha | 3 points
You can't extract files while their on the cloud, at least not with MEGA. Download them and try extracting the local files.

Why was my DBZ thread taken down?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
probably because of this:
>If you didn't upload this to MEGA, then you have no business sharing it: SEE RULE #3.
What is the reason for that rule's existence?
[-] igotsomegreypoupon | 1 points
It was implemented to try and stop links from source sites being taken down after they were posted here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/megalinks/comments/64s3lx/meta_can_we_talk_about_rule_3/
What's the solution? Give the link to phuwna or somebody, have them take it, download, and up it themselves?

Anybody else use Usenet to grab content? I used it for years but eventually stopped paying for it and nearly forgot about it for a while. But my wife asked me to download a TV show for her recently and I couldn't really find the episodes via torrents or my plethora of piracy sites so I recently started paying for it again. Was able to download every episode in 720p or 1080p at ~8MB/s via Usenet.
I'm just curious as to who else uses it or if anybody else even knows about it? It's like torrenting meets direct download with ~10 years of retention so nothing ever dies!

Are there any other blogspots/sites/forums that upload 4k x265 movies? I know there are a few uploaded here on mega that ive snatched up. Sucks Snahp,it uploads just regular blurays/remuxes, even though i have the space i really cant justify 50+gb's for 1 movie so im tryin to find alternatives!

I have a request for tagging submissions. Allow us to tag with
On my latest submission I've added a video that I'm certain many visitors would love to have, but they've already been and gone and without a fresh tag they have no reason to look inside for new content. A tag would let us announce additions and changes without having to futz with the title (which we can't do anyway.)
