New to the world of jazz? This album is a great place to start your collection. Very easy to listen to, yet still emotionally satisfying, John Coltrane's 1958 Blue Train is a fun jazz album with a playful mood (especially when compared with what would come later in Coltrane's career - more Trane will be uploaded in the future). All but one of the songs here are composed by Coltrane, with the title track being an especially easy-going number that is sure to please. Coltrane himself even stated in 1960 that this was his favorite of his albums thus far in his career.
This edition is the 2008 50th anniversary 2xLP 180g reissue. I personally love the way it sounds, but I've never been fortunate enough to hear an original release to compare. Unfortunately there are no bonus tracks included like with the CD version, but the songs here are all top notch.
