Josef Leimberg was one of the musicians who contributed to the jazz sound of Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly. He's been around the LA scene for awhile apparently, but this is his first solo album. Wikipedia describes the album as "a blend of jazz, ballads, hip hop, funk, and meditation" and also it "explores West Coast G-funk and two major historical components of Afrofuturistic sound art: spiritual cosmic jazz in the vein of artists like Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane, and cosmic funk as created by Parliament-Funkadelic."
Any way you describe it, this is just damn good music.
Featured guest musicians include Kamasi Washington, Bilal, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Kurupt, Terrace Martin and Miguel Atood Ferguson.
