I saw that someone else has already uploaded Vol. 1 of this album, but the music is just too good not to share the rest here.
The Epic is a triple album that looks to the past, present, and future of jazz while solidifying Kamasi Washington's place in the pantheon of great tenor sax players. There's a definite John Coltrane/Pharoah Sanders vibe to his playing, a distinct spiritual element that is both captivating and uplifting. Songs on here range from small jazz combo workouts to full-blown big band excursions with accompanying orchestra and choir. This album has been out for over two years and I am still digesting it, there is just so much to love here. If you ever have the opportunity to catch Kamasi live while he's on tour DO IT!
Kamasi and the rest of the West Coast Get Down Collective (Thundercat [aka Stephen Bruner], Cameron Graves, Miles Mosley, Ronald Bruner, Jr. [brother of Thundercat], Ryan Porter, Brandon Coleman, Tony Austin) have all been playing together for years and they record on each others' albums. A few have solo albums released already, with more slated for the future. It's an exciting time to be a jazz fan!
