For those wondering "Manhunter" is an earlier adaptation of "Red Dragon" but it's oh so 80's. I'd recommend skipping it in favour of "Red Dragon"
The chronological order of the Hannibal Lecter film series is as follows:
Hannibal Rising (2007)
Red Dragon (2002) or Manhunter (1986)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Hannibal (2001)

It is trendy to love Manhunter and shit on Red Dragon, but I think Red Dragon is a much better adaptation of the source material ("Red Dragon" book). Fiennes gives Dolarhyde a depth and vulnerability that is lacking completely from Manhunter.
