A rare Grateful Dead live date featuring both acoustic and electric performances. Recorded on May 15, 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City. The band New Riders of the Purple Sage (featuring Jerry Garcia on pedal steel guitar) also performed at this concert, but that recording is not included in this set. Includes a bonus disc with additional songs from this night, as well as songs from a few days later in the same tour.
This live set is also notable for being recorded in between the Grateful Dead's two seminal studio albums Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, both released in 1970. These albums are generally regarded as the best studio albums that the band recorded during their 30 year career. Each contain a strong focus on traditional songwriting and folk music in addition to the Dead's brand of psychedelic rock - this concert being partially acoustic, it is more or less in the same vein as these two albums and features many of the songs from them. I highly recommend this set for longtime Deadheads and newcomers alike.
