yeah. The main file (the largest one). Has the option in VLC to view English subs, but there are none displayed on screen when it is selected (at least for me).

Make sure that VLC has subtitles enabled & you have the English one selected. I just tested it in VLC without a problem.

yep, done all that. Just doesn't seem to work on my version of vlc :-( I'll have to check it on another machine when I get back from holidays.
