Thanks as always u/ecchh.

I'll probly download this just to see for myself but does anybody notice a difference on a 1080p tv (not 4k) between this 6,000kb/s release compared to the 3,000kb/s Tigole release uploaded earlier.

Ofcourse its better but is it noticeable on non 4k setups?

From my own observations, Tigole's version has much more visible visible artifacting around dark/high-contrast edges and a noise removal filter. This encode retains much more of the original film grain from the remux, and is more detailed because of it.

Ya that's what I figured. I can see the noise or graininess of it. Is this generally more of an issue with older movies or movies shot in a certain way, like 28 Days Later for instance?

It's more noticeable on older movies because they actually used film, and the quality of the film used generally determined how much grain there was in an image, along with lighting in a scene, etc.

That's not to say modern films don't have grain, they just usually have less because of the higher resolution digital cameras available.

EDIT: Side note - Grain is hard to compress, which is why you typically see older movies (filmed on actual reels of film) to be larger in file size than more recent films (shot on high-resolution digital cameras) when both encoded to x265. | Megalinks MegaDB EDIT: Side note - Grain is hard to compress, which is why you typically see older movies (filmed on actual reels of film) to be larger in file size than more recent films (shot on high-resolution digital cameras) when both encoded to x265.
