Any idea why I only get a green screen on my the display when using VLC? Should I use something else?

edit: works on mpc-hc. weird.

Going by this post and other search results, it used to be a problem with VLC being unable to handle chroma sampling (on this file it's 4:2:0) but an admin reply in that thread says it was patched and that was 18 months ago. You could try selecting a different renderer?

You could try selecting a different renderer?

No idea how to do that. But I'll look it up. Thanks.

Try using Pot player. Plays everything I've thrown at it without any hiccups.

In the set up wizard.

I don't remember what two options there were back when I was installing it. If there's any problem with your installation, you can simply uninstall and then reinstall.

/u/idiotenglishfans had the same problem (see above). VLC is supposed to have been patched for it but... I don't know. I do know that it plays just fine in Media Player Classic. Try that instead.

MPC comes with several renderers. Have at a look at how yours are set. Go to Options>Playback>Output and compare it to this. These are my settings and they play the movie just fine.

Nope, no other filters or codec packs. Stop the movie, pick a new renderer, click Apply and then launch the movie. Go through the renderers in the list one at a time. If none of them work, try a codec pack.
