Note: there's a film series, consisting of 6 films, that precedes this adaptation. Both are based on a manga series, and while the TV series is more exhaustive, the film series is widely regarded as being vastly superior to the TV series. I've only ever seen the film series, but from what I've heard, you should only watch the TV series, if you're a die hard fan of the source material.
