[META] Encoding Grindhouse (2007) to x265 10bit and would like some input. | Megalinks MegaDB [META] Encoding Grindhouse (2007) to x265 10bit and would like some input.

EDIT: They will both be included in one double-feature presentation the way it was originally meant to be seen. Additionally, I will be uploading the extended versions of each film for those who would like those versions with the featurettes.

For those who are not aware, Grindhouse is a double feature consisting of Planet Terror | Megalinks MegaDB Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez and Death Proof | Megalinks MegaDB Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino, complete with fake trailers for fake movies.

What I would like to know is if people would like to see Grindhouse as one complete package as intended or if I should split both features separately.

Most releases I see for this film have both features separated from one another, presumably to save people bandwidth who might only be interested in the one film.

Thoughts?

Do it! People can find the single films if they want, and then those that want it can find a version that's put together for that old school grindhouse feel.

It was meant to be watched as a double feature. Please do the whole thing in one. To honor how the directors intended them to be viewed. Thanks!

Replicate the double feature feeling by keeping them together as intended

Well, if you are encoding from the "Grindhouse" Bluray which has both features together (as intended) with all fake trailers included, then I wouldn't separate anything.

If you are creating the encode from the separate "extended" blurays, then I would keep them separate... as combining them wouldn't recreate the original film considering the separate blurays are extended.

Also! Planet Terror is presented in 1.78:1 on the individual extended bluray release... Not the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 when paired with Death Proof in theaters.

I have a superb 1080p x264 encode of the original Grindhouse presentation... That might be helpful here!

I think separating them would be ideal.

Add chapters for people who want only on part

I'd love to have them separate, but with the trailers still part of the beginning of each film. Either way, looking forward to this one. I haven't watched it in forever!

Separate. I know they’re packaged together, but I’ve always considered them as individual films.

Edit: my bad, I didn’t read your message. If you want to put them together as they were intended with the trailers between, then you should do it.

Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun!

I can always include the trailers as a sort of "featurettes" type thing that people can optionally get. I'm not going to throw those away, they're too good not to include, at least optionally!

I can always join the videos, in my media players, but it'll become difficult to separate if there is only a single file. So separate files is the way to go.

you could do them both as ordered chapters through mkv so that you can watch the whole movie at once without changing or watch it separately.
