Both available at 1337x and elsewhere. Keep in mind if you don't have an HDR TV, you need to watch HDR rips using MPC-HC+madVR to convert to SDR or the picture will look washed out.

Is it worth to convert to SDR,or should I just play the non hdr version in my non hdr screen?

I tried to ''convert it'',I simply played the file after following the guide,it looks washed out,I don't think the madVR worked

For a non-HDR screen, it's usually better to use the non-HDR version. It's really up to you. I get the HDR version for a 4K HDR TV but using madVR is nice to play the same file on an older 1080P projector that supports 12-bit color. For example, the 4K HDR version of Passengers looks incredible on either device.

If it's washed out then madVR is not fully enabled. For MPC-HC you need to add it as an external filter and set it to "prefer". You need to go through madVR settings and enable "convert HDR content to SDR by using pixel shader math" under the particular device. Try setting the display's peak nits to 265 to start. (higher makes a darker image)

When properly enabled, during playback you can use CTRL+J to see madVR stats on the left side of the screen. It should show conversion from HDR.

I downloaded the 2160 non HDR rip before as it was released earlier. How much of a difference is there between HDR and non HDR?

[-] ecchh | 4 points | Nov 06 2017 21:26:48

The difference is pretty noticeable. It's hard to illustrate because of the nature of the content, but HDR content has virtually no color banding, something even the highest-quality non-HDR content has. I've compared the picture between the HDR and non HDR release for season 2 and there's no contest, HDR wins. Everything just seems a lot more natural to look at.

My monitor doesn't support HDR unfortunately, so the HDR version looks really washed out. I'm told you can use MPC and "madVR" to convert the HDR to SDR, but I have no clue how to do it.

I used this guide a while back to configure it. It's slightly outdated now but still very useful to help get you on the right track.

Thanks. This didn't work with MPC-BE but did work with MPC-HC. I can't seem to get it to work with PotPlayer which I prefer though.

That means you also use non-HDR monitor? Just to confirm that this can be done because my monitor also does not support HDR.

Btw, the link you provided requires ID & password to access.

My monitor doesn't support HDR, no. You should be able to just close that authentication box. Not sure why that's there, it didn't used to pop up.

Like huuuge difference. If you want the best viewing quality, HDR is top-notch.

did you manage to rip the HDR from Netflix? it's never been done so maybe you're forcing you're own HDR?

just assumed it couldn't be done as all the 4k hdr netflix content is always done without HDR. If you've managed it well done and that would theoretically mean that Vudu's Dolby Vision library of movies could be ripped too...that would be awesome. Thanks

Stranger Things 2 is the first Netflix content I know of to broadcast in both 4K and HDR simultaneously. As far as how it was done, I can't really comment since I'm not the one who ripped it or re-encoded it. It would seem that it is theoretically possible though, which is exciting!

can you find something like this for season 1

[-] ecchh | 1 points | Nov 06 2017 23:41:33

I don't think season 1 is available in HDR, only 4K. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Not seen it anywhere in HDR. I'll let you know if I do.
