Star Wars The Phanton Edit and later Attack of the Phantom were an attempt by one fan to clean up what he saw as the questionable editing decisions in the first two Star Wars prequels. The Phantom Edit first rose to internet fame when it was mischaracterized as having completely removed Jar-Jar. Jar-Jar's antics were minimized but his presence and dialogue were preserved where it impacted the plot. The editor incorporated some cut scenes from the DVDs and in a few brief instances fabricated his own shots.
Both edits were created with DVD sources and if there are 1080p versions I haven't found them. Mike Nichols (the Phantom Editor) recorded an audio commentary on both films. He's a bit technical and repetitive but interesting nonetheless.
The People vs George Lucas is a 2010 documentary that spends 90 minutes encouraging Star Wars fans to talk about themselves.
Everything's in a folder so you can pick and choose.
The Phantom Edit is 480p with an overall bitrate of 1602kb/s. The forced subtitles are hardcoded and to preserve them the letterboxing was not cropped out.
Attack of the Phantom is 384p with an overall bitrate of 1996kb/s.
The People vs George Lucas is 352p with an overall bitrate of 1058kb/s.
These are crappy rips. At the time they were downloaded they were average. There appears to be better rips floating around but finding one with active seeders isn't working out so I'm posting what I have.

I plan on uploading a whole package as well a little closer to TLJ release. All fanedits/fan restorations with the best quality I can find. Gotta get that marathon in!
Do you have a copy of “The Blackened Mantle” – the crazy single-movie retellingwith the Japanese dub and new dialogue in the subtitles?

It's all of the Star Wars prequels edited into one movie told in a non-linear fashion, the storytelling is very reminiscent of the Nolan bros. For example, the first half of the duel with Darth Maul is used as a cold open, which is completely badass. Also, the dialogue is replaced with the Japanese track and the subtitles are rewritten with new dialogue that sounds more natural and changes the dumb parts of the story for the better.

This is an example of how it plays out, notice how much more human the dialogue reads than Lucas's script.

Much appreciated. Never even heard of Attack of the Phantom.

Is there a similar thing for the OT?

Probably not because people are only this triggered about the prequels.
There are a zillion fan edits of the original trilogy out there. Sites like fanedit.org provide coverage and can give you titles to search for on torrents or elsewhere. Outside of these two edits and a fan edit of Star Trek V that somehow made the movie less awful I don't pay much attention. I have a 1080p of one of Harmy's Star Wars Despecialized Editions that I downloaded years ago and I have yet to watch it.

Too bad the video quality isn't 1080p :/

Not trying to be rude, but if you want good video quality you should be looking for the films as they were officially released. Don't go looking for some fan's butchered edited version expecting high quality video.

Are these edits better than the prequel Anti-cheese editions?

Yes! I've wanted this for so long without bothering looking for it. Thanks!
