Why would anyone downvote uploads?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

permalink

[-] DrShlomo | 4 points | Oct 31 2017 15:19:54

Generally a good idea to keep the links alive actually

Smaller presence, less likelihood they'll get sniped

permalink

[-] HA5HBANG | 13 points | Oct 31 2017 17:21:35

You're wrong. Downvoting is not a sniper deterrent.

permalink

[-] DrShlomo | 1 points | Nov 01 2017 09:19:57

My bad, presumed it was

permalink

[-] cracksmokingjimmy | 2 points | Oct 31 2017 15:53:47

its not tho :-/

just makes ppl look ungrateful for the uploads tbh

permalink

[-] Himechi | 3 points | Nov 01 2017 23:34:46

It's an automated part of the site. Every one of my uploads has had a downvote within 10 minutes of being posted.

permalink

[-] HA5HBANG | 4 points | Nov 02 2017 03:04:19

I'm talking multiple downvotes pushing stuff negative for no apparent reason.

permalink

[-] TwiztidJuggla420 | 1 points | Nov 03 2017 19:44:00

I just recently started posting in this subreddit after leeching for a while. I am wondering the same thing. It seems most of my posts are being downvoted, at first I wondered if I was doing something wrong. Now I am thinking that there are just some asshole trolls who downvote every post? I have never downvoted any post here. I don't understand this.

permalink

[-] HA5HBANG | 1 points | Nov 04 2017 00:08:53

Used to be downvotes meant something. It's apparent to me that now they usually don't. Probably best to ignore them.

permalink

[-] TwiztidJuggla420 | 1 points | Nov 04 2017 00:46:38

That's what I have been doing. I don't really care about the numbers, I was just curious. As long as at least one person likes each post, that is cool with me.

permalink

[-] exhippy | 1 points | Nov 03 2017 22:09:57

Yeah, I see a lot of requests get downvoted. The internet is full of lots of assholes I guess. Can't see what the fun would be in doing it myself.

any suggestions on the best way to store my videos while taking up the least amount of space?

permalink

[-] ZubinB | 11 points | Oct 30 2017 03:42:47

x265

permalink

[-] TheGryffyn | 5 points | Oct 31 2017 09:28:45

Encode in 10 bit, x265. 10 bit actually uses less space than 8 bit does.

permalink

[-] Himechi | 0 points | Nov 01 2017 23:36:55

Can't have it both ways. Storage is cheap and we're well past the tsunami-caused price spike of 5 years ago. Buy one or more 3TB or larger HGST NAS drive and be happy. :)

permalink

[-] GhostHawk666 | 1 points | Nov 03 2017 15:37:31

That's right. The less compression the better when watching on a Home Theater setup with massive screen. x265 probably looks fine on a 55" TV and fast-paced action movies show compression artifacts much more than slow rolling chick flicks.

When it comes to renaming files for Plex (or whatever) what bulk rename utility do you use?

permalink

[-] uwotm8_888 | 4 points | Oct 30 2017 23:22:11

I use the renamer as it is customizable and you can select the database to rename from

Those are nametags/call signs of the movie ripper/encoder. They have many high quality uploads so you start to expect good things from them.

FRANKeNCODE are done by /u/ecchh himself and tigole are done by tigole are done by Tigole from UTR. Both are of good quality.

Is there any way to set a vpn to automatically switch ip every few hours or so. Im trying to download the 1080p uploads of fear the walking dead and it totals like over 100gb. I can't download overnight or constantly keep switching the server myself.

permalink

[-] AabidS10 | 5 points | Oct 30 2017 07:53:04

I remember seeing those options on Nord VPN and HideMyAss. Not sure if all vpns allow it. r/Piracy and r/vpn would be better places to ask this imo.

Can I start a download/sync from Megasync on my home computer while I'm at a computer away from home? I know my computer is on and megasync is running.

Can I play 1080p 10bit x265 in raspberry pi3?

permalink

[-] anastusfocht | 1 points | Nov 03 2017 15:10:05

1080p 10bit x265

iirc:

pi3 CAN play up to 8b hvec 1080p video in SW at 30fps (dunno max bit rate). (You may consider active cooling) pi3 is NOT going to be able to run 10bit video in h264(haha) or h265 at any rez (yet).

I am aware SW Hevc optimization work on Pi is ongoing. If things have changed recently please let me know.

I'm trying to grab a movie from a zippyshare dump and most times I run into this: https://i.imgur.com/msECNu0.png

Any way to resolve this issue?

permalink

[-] exhippy | 1 points | Nov 03 2017 22:04:07

I think it just means that the links are down but it doesn't trigger the red link down for some reason.

Is there any way to get windows to show proper thumbnails for x265 videos? Right now I've just got a bunch of VLC logos and it's a bit annoying, enough to actually hold me back from converting more stuff.

permalink

[-] uwotm8_888 | 3 points | Oct 30 2017 23:21:34

ya there is download a program called media preview and it will set thumbnail to your vid at any position you like (i.e start of video,1% of video) etc

Best way to keep track of what I've seen and how much? Something similar to Netflix? I don't binge watch shows so am usually 6 episodes into season 1 of show X and on the 2nd episode of season 3 of show Y. Its hard to keep track of what episode I have/have not seen so when I go back to show I haven't watched in a while, I end up skipping through several shows every time to find the one I haven't watched.

I'd like to keep my folder structure as it is though.

and so on.

I have the same problem, which I've never been bothered enough to do something about, but why not just append "- HERE" or similar to the next episode's filename? :P

Hi, currently I play most media from a hard drive I have connected to my TV (Samsung ks8000) and haven't had any issues. I am hoping to buy one of the LG oled TVs, does anyone know if they support playback of most file types?

Jd2, Chrome, and Firefox have all lost the ability to download larger files from Mega. These are now being redirected to the mega downloader, which I'd rather not have installed on my machine.

Anyone know of a workaround for this issue?

I noticed this in the MEGA options: "Grant your transfer quota to users downloading your links"

This means that free users can download my stuff using my bandwidth and not hit the free cap, right?

permalink

[-] douhaveanygreypoupon | 1 points | Nov 02 2017 08:30:16

Looks that way, but assuming that a lot of what's posted here is reposted elsewhere (private forums etc) I wouldn't use it. Anything significant you post would drain your quota in a matter of days.

hey guys!

I'm new here. So, I'm not sure if it's been asked before but is there a way to download from MEGA on Android. I don't have access to a PC and watch all my shows/movies on my tablet.

Thanks.

permalink

[-] akhil609 | 2 points | Nov 04 2017 18:05:06

Yes, mega has an android app. But make sure your tablet can play 10bit x265 before you download them as a lot of content here these days is x265.

anyone using megasync on linux?

does it start/stop/resume around the 5GB limit like it does on windows?

permalink

[-] akhil609 | 1 points | Nov 04 2017 18:01:45

Yes it will do the same. Mega does that no matter what you use, megasync on windows, linux,IOS or even chrome. And it's not 5GB anymore, somewhere aroung 3 GB from my recent experiences.

I recently decided to start trying to contribute here. I would like to start doing some encoding myself. I have very little experience here. I like the file size and quality of Tigole's [UTR] encodes. Does anybody know which software and encoding settings that he uses? Thanks in advance for any help.
