For Halloween.

~~I have no idea what "fan edition" means, it was just labeled as such. Googling didn't give many answers.~~

Superior how?

That's a really big spoiler unfortunately, what I would say is the director's ending is much darker. I personally think the director's cut has a much, much better ending than the theater version especially given how much dark and violent imagery was added for the Director's release (I think this would get an R rating instead of a PG-13 for some of the bloodier murder pics).

If you really want to see the differences you can look here for a comparison of the theatrical and director's versions, this basically goes shot by shot through the major points of the movie including the endings so major spoiler warning.

Agree. You need to watch both movies to understand the differences. And it's the person who edited this who says the theatrical ending is superior, just for clarification :)

Yeah, my feeling was the theatrical ending didn't fit the movie and felt tacked on. This is actually one of those movies I use as reference when someone asks about movies executives fuck up.

Thank you! While I liked the original, having even seen it in theaters originally, I had no idea a better cut was available

HOLY SHIT! YES! I love the theatrical ending... much creepier in my opinion!

I'm surprised, not that you liked theatrical version better but that you found it creepier. I thought that was a much happier Hollywood style ending.

Well, I don't want to spoil it for onlookers, but the directors cut ending felt quite unnatural to me. Like, what you would expect to happen, cliched. And the fact the attack happened outside the confines of the room. The first one may have been "happier", but the recording part was a way of legitimatising it for him and everyone who didn't believe the room was haunted. It was creepier in that aspect, and that it keeps all the paranormal ties just to the room itself, and not outside it like the directors cut.

An upvote wasnt enough, just had to say that you are not alone in this.

Thanks for this. I watched the directors cut of this movie in 2008 and I had no idea there were two different endings.
