yup, file is actually 480p or worse,
blown up to 1080p.
i'm watching this on a pc window with 4K60
so it's easy to tell when a file is compressed.
able to get it here before p2p is appreciated.
this is a common problem with live streams.
i used to get GoT on my paid for HBO Now
at 480p the night it first aired Sunday night.
it wouldn't show 720p or better till Monday.
i just noticed there's an "After Trek" series
which is laughable considering Discovery is
a such a shallow plot hole riddled reboot universe.
i guess they think there may be a few millennials
who didn't binge watch ST reruns growing up.
it's not like any of them actually read books.

Is this series good yet?
I wasn't into the first two episodes.
Give episode 3 a shot. The first 2 episodes don't represent the rest of the show at all, it's kind of ridiculous how they started it off that way. I didn't like the first 2 episodes, but I absolutely loved episode 3. If you don't like episode 3, then I think it's fair to drop.
I am completely new to this Star Trek series and have zero knowledge about other movies or tv shows in this series.
Can i watch this as a newbie? Will i understand it?

Go for it. Same as you, I didn't know much about ST. I didn't feel lost and if you really need to, you can google a few basics (like what is a "vulcan"). Enjoying the show so far.
Apparently some viewers aren't that happy with the show as it's supposedly not canon. So not knowing anything is probably even better ;)
And it goes actually farther than just gluing a beard on a guy and trying to make you believe that's an alien race. Imo, the production design and visual effects are pretty good.

ST Discovery is canon.

It is a prequel but definitely give the rest of the series a chance. I didn't really care for TOS but TNG is a great starting point if you're interested.

Yes, you can watch it without knowing anything about the Star Trek series.
It's getting better with every single episode. Gripping television.

If the last episode (this one) is anything to go by, it really isn't Star Trek,

episodes 1 and 2 are very bad, episode 3 is good and IMO you don't even need to watch 1 and 2 to understand it. episode 4 made me fall asleep.
somehow I'm really enjoying the orville way more. didn't think that would happen. if you are a trek fan give it a shot, the third episode of that is really good.
Try as I might, still attempting to wrap my head around this show. BUT, I keep trying!
PS: Thanks for the up!
