Why does everyone need to lie about hdr? They've lied so much I wouldn't be able to tell when hdr finally is available and cracked.

I'm no expert but I don't think anyone is lying. Deforming the truth a little, maybe...
AACS 2.0 has been cracked for a few months now, legit 4K BD rips are starting to appear everywhere. And even before that was cracked, DHCP 2.2 was already cracked too so 4K HDR was available (using capture devices, but I don't know the details) but a 1:1 copy of the disc wasn't possible so they were remuxing it with the audio from regular 1080p blurays.
But I get what you mean, the lack of information about the ripping process of those UHD movies is annoying.

Granted I haven't downloaded this release, but other terminal releases have kicked "HDR" on my TV automatically. Are you sure there isn't HDR?

I'm not sure, just that there's lots of "fake" stuff going around unfortunately. I'll try a bunch!
This definitely kicked my tv into HDR mode, however, the colors are crummy. I was jumping back and forth between this and the sparks release that does not kick into HDR. The colors are much more vibrant in the sparks release. It’s very noticeable.

I've honestly literally compared a straight bluray to the cracked UHD release, and you can barely tell a difference. Only the color is touched up a bit. I then decided to google.
"real or fake 4K" lists the bluray as an upscaled version, aka fake 4K. Unless you want a slightly different color profile (the UHD was a bit darker or something), you'd get similar details off the 1080p release.

Ahh, yes. Many movies are not mastered at 4K to begin with. I see what you're saying. That's one of the main reasons I have yet to make the jump to 4K.
