Because it criticizes samurai in many different levels, other than embracing it.

Even though this is an anti-samurai film, the few sword fights are among the best; intense, real and clever. If you want any more persuasion Roger also put this one in his great movie list. Just don't read any reviews until actually seeing it in case of any possible spoilers.
