It won't let me download this without installing a program and then creating an account... why?
I've definitely downloaded files this big before with no issues, but it says Firefox can't handle it.

Looks like it's a new "feature" from Mega. No idea why they suddenly decided to limit Firefox users when it's worked in the past. Maybe they just want to push people into using the app. Who knows?
The Mega desktop app is perfectly fine to use though, and the reason it asks you to create an account is because you would typically use the app to sync files from your pc to your cloud account with Mega.
Personally I have been using JDownloader, as have many others here, and it works perfectly for downloading files from Mega and some other sites like Zippy. I use the Java version (it's listed under Other on the download page) of JDownloader, not the Windows one, because it can be run from the folder the files are in and doesn't have to be installed or make any changes to your registry.
Edit: corrected the link to the newest version of JDownloader
