The audio track of this film is somehow incorrectly encoded (is 7.1 AAC native BluRay, I don't think so, but not sure, I've never ripped a BluRay disc). I doubt that the sound levels on this release are exact match with what the original BluRay audio. It's too weird (the effects louder than the dialogues).
So yes, there are issues with sound levels, you can blow your speakers accidently.
How do I know that? I downmixed it correctly to PCM (leaving out the sub track, no need for subsonics). The PCM track does not sound correct, the effect channels are too high. It's likely an AAC encoding issue (levels messed up).
BTW, why would Tigole not use a pass-thru of the original AC-3 or DTS track from the BluRay? It would be so much better. Why AAC encode? Anybody knows?

anybody else blow out their speakers trying to listen to this?
I'm using the latest VLC on a mac, and ANY amount of volume while playing this file will max out my headphones with shrieking distortion. Honestly I didn't think that was even possible with my system volume set as low as possible.
*edit: if you run into the same problem I did, try one of the nightly builds of VLC v3.0, like for instance the one here

VLC has issues dealing with 8-channel audio. Is there any way you can try a different player? I don't know Mac so I couldn't suggest one.

VLC 3.0 nightly build fixed it. Thanks for the clue.

what player do you recommend? I get glitched audio with the latest vlc and quick sfv check seemed perfectly fine.

Really, I think the movie just pushes your sound system hard period. I thought I almost blew out my sub at one part, and I was using Kodi in Fedora.

no, this was different- every single moment was a uniform shrieking warble. it was really a problem with vlc2 not supporting 8-channel audio, fixed by upgrading to vlc3.
