Curious. Why is everything in HEVC nowadays?

I can give you a general idea why. In ideal use case scenarios, HEVC sometimes offers better quality to the eye for lower file sizes. This may not be true if you were to look at a HEVC sample alongside an H.264 encoded one because then you'd look at very minute details trying to find differences. However I've personally found HEVC to blur out sharp details like faces in most low bitrate encodes giving a smooth look like something you'd get out of a makeup filter which I've disliked but never minded.

Also, for most low popularity films/uploads, the uploaders prefer HEVC as these uploads will be around for a long time with no alternatives and that HEVC is considered the 'successor/future-proof' standard to H.264 (evident from the naming itself - H.265), which is a superfluous statement that I'd have to disagree with again as AV1 is coming and is hyped to be much better than current standards.
