you will need to download the Dolphin Emulator. it is compatible with most controllers, such as xbox, keyboard, etc. if you would like to use a gamecube controller, you would need to buy an adapter such as this one.

Bug fixes mainly and few gameplay mechanics changes (before online patches were a thing). The three NTSC versions have such few major changes that it almost doesn't matter which one you play on, thought 1.02 is typically called the "standard". PAL includes quite a few character balance changes, especially to the top tier characters like Fox. 20XX is the only unofficial mod from my post. It is based on NTSC-U v1.02 though it also supports in-game switching to PAL characters.
