Very nice, I know Depeche Mode have a lot of 5.1 albums. I'd be interested in any Yes albums too.

You will hear the 5.1 downmixed to stereo. I don't know what else you'd expect.

I think his question was - or at least that's what I'm curious about - would the sound be garbled because of the lack of speakers? Or it would just sound the same as if you had a stereo source? Or it would sound better for reasons I can't imagine, me not being an audiophile? Same question for headphones, would you notice any difference than from a stereo source?

It's been a few days since I looked at the files available, but I would imagine most of it wouldn't sound too much better.

If you already have an uncompressed version of the album from a CD source, most of these are going to be almost indiscernible from those files. IIRC, most/all of these rips are encoded to lossy codecs and most of them are 44.1 kHz (the same frequency as a CD) or 48 kHz (the frequency used for audio on video DVDs) at 16 bits... so there's not a big difference.

If, for example, these rips tended to be 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz at 24 bits and encoded into lossless FLAC, I'd definitely recommend downloading them even if you don't have a 5.1 system... but these are not files that will be significantly different to a stereo listener.

Thanks for this. I've posted a few hi-res or surround albums before and will work on posting more when I get time.

is this designed for multiple speakers or are headphones adequate?

Multiple speakers, 5.1 surround sound.

Edit: Unless you have 5.1 headphones

Unless you have 5.1 headphones

IMO A good pair of stereo headphones and a virtualization software is better than any 5.1 headphones.

But no other system can compare a 5.1 speaker setup.

Thank you, love surround sound music!
I've got 26GB at the moment, but almost none of it is the same as yours so hit me up if you want some more of this stuff.

Sent you PM. I also absolutely love surround sound music. Its sad how hard it can be to find sometimes. I don't even think there is a sub reddit for surround sound music in general.

No sub that I've ever found unfortunately, most of my collection has come from ripping personal copies or newsgroups released files.
I wish the music industry were willing to try surround sound more as it's truly amazing.
I got to see Roger Waters play Dark Side of the Moon live and it was in Quad for the whole concert, was truly awesome to hear the sound effects buzz around your head.

Here is my list if anyone wants to request anything: https://pastebin.com/XqJCQXSm

Seeing Roger waters live in Quad sounds amazing. I really hope the industry does, hearing all the up-mixes of songs in movies is great, so i don't see why they can't see the potential. Maybe we should think of making a sub. All i know of for surround sound music communities is Surroundbyus, which is basically dead sadly

Are those Muse studio albums really in surround? I can't find any info online about them. But if they are, I'd like to request them please!

The Muse stuff is upmixed to 5.1 but was done well (I delete any poor upmixes), has already been uploaded here https://www.reddit.com/r/megalinks/comments/70eebd/music_another_surround_sound_collection_26gb/
