Aren't these files a little too large for an x265 release? I mean the point of x265 is for the files to be smaller, or am I completely wrong assuming this?

Yeah this is a little too big, especially for a show with only 8 episodes.

You're right in assuming the point of x265 is for the files to be smaller.

So considering two 1GB rips, one in x265 and other in x264; the x265 will have better quality as it has stored more information in that 1GB of space than x264 could. A 1GB x264 and 700MB x265 will have equal quality.

Also I believe this encode has a multiple audio tracks included, hence adding to the file size.
