How does this compare with x264 for the file sizes vs quality.

I'm used to downloading 30-40GB seasons not 5GB.

x265 is fantastic. As long as this wasn't done with nvenc, which release groups tend not to do, it should be pretty good.

x265 at this tiny size simply won't look anywhere near as good.

Well, the quality is pretty decent, imho.

edit: although i prefer x265 releases at twice the size... but it seems like size does not matter... sometimes it does though ;)

it's gonna look more washed out / blurry compared to x264.

the only reason why x265 produces smaller files is because it uses larger blocks, which will lead to a more blurry picture. Like in this picture:
