Thanks. Is NVIDIA HEVC different by a lot from normal HEVC using CPU?

It produces the same result, but encodes MUCH faster. I can encode over 1000 FPS vs 12 FPS on CPU.

For the record, I used Staxrip with ffmpeg so I could do a variable bitrate 2-pass, which Staxrip doesn't support with its built in NVIDIA x265 settings.

Some critics say its quality isn't as good as using a CPU to encode but I don't really see a difference.

Thats good speed. Which Nvidia GPU do you have? Does Handbrake support Nvidia? I find Staxrip way too confusing.

I have a 1080 Ti. Sadly Handbrake doesn't support it (yet- hopefully they will)

If you follow this guide, you can get pretty decent rips. Just play around with the settings.

Handbrake has gone on record and said they never will. You should try hybrid, you will get much better results.

Can you elaborate on hybrid? Is it a separate encoding program, or just different methodology?

Different encoding program.

I've had much better results with hybrid than any other when using HVENC. It still doesn't compare to x265 though. Selur will also help with bugs and such.

I've got a 1080 that i use to encode things here and there and from what i have noticed on cartoons you really cant tell a difference but with non cartoons there is a bit of a difference could be my settings too. currently i am using mediacoder to encode

Im starting to think HEVC isnt all its cracked up to be. there is a lot of interlacing when there is movement, especially when they are talking. I have some MP4 rips that are crystal clear for dvd rips.

He said he encoded it at 1000fps. Settings matter when encoding. I wouldn't blame the codec for poor quality from amateur encoders.

Hmm. I'll play around with the deinterlace settings. I know when I watch the raw DVDs there's some interlacing present.

Thanks! Old Teletoon rips were actually the only ones I could find and the DVD has been out for awhile.
