keep these 10bit x265 releases coming. Love the quality

[-] [deleted] | 9 points | Aug 09 2017 02:32:30

I don't like the quality. Looks like a YIFY, i.e. exactly what you'd expect for the size and 2:15:00 runtime of video. Pixels everywhere in high bitrate scenes. Aim for something closer to 3GB for palatable quality at 1080p.

[-] Himechi | 3 points | Aug 09 2017 06:01:18

That's what I figured. There's no way a 2GB file is going to look consistently good, and the audio is probably low bitrate to keep the overall file size down. Watching one of these rips with headphones is like listening to an a.m. radio during a thunderstorm.

File size should be fine.. I think it’s just MRN .. they are usual quick to release and the last copy I saw of there’s was The Circle and it looked bad .. expecially a movie with no fast motion .. I wonder if they use GPU encoding.

Out of interest, who do you usually look for when it comes to BluRay 10bit x265 releases? usually I grab MRN (usually the first as you say), Tigole/Joybell/UTR...

permalink

[-] adigital | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 19:12:30

Tigole releases are what I usually end up keeping.. once I get that I don't look for anything else. Other than Tigole most the UTR releases are good as well as PSA. For anime I like bonkai77 and pseudo x265 releases.

I'd like them more if these file formats wouldn't keep becoming outdated so fast. I've got multiple devices only a few years old that won't even touch these x265 files -_-

What was the original source? SPARKS?

Yes, original source was SPARKS.

Hello! New guy here. Whats the difference between x265 and x264?

permalink

[-] 960mgtx | 9 points | Aug 08 2017 17:17:41

for the same quality the size of x265 is much smaller than x264.

if a bluray is 18 gb in x264 then it will be around 5-8gb in x265 but almost identical quality.

for running x265 u need a compatible cpu. x 264 should be able to run even on a potato.

[-] Mega_Raikou | 2 points | Aug 08 2017 17:23:48

Thanks! So x264 slightly better quality if not identical? i have an i7 7700k so should be compatible with x265 correct?

permalink

[-] 960mgtx | 4 points | Aug 08 2017 17:29:05

quality wise almost identical.

your cpu will easily handle x265.

mine is a laptop cpu i7 4710hq and it handles 1080p x265 without any problem.

also make sure that the video player u use has support for X265. ex - MPC-HC , Potplayer etc.

i generally use MPC-HC or KODI

[-] kevInquisition | 3 points | Aug 08 2017 20:07:24

You'll be fine. Most modern phones even support x265 hardware decoding.

MPC-HC is ending development, but for the time being it's still a great player. VLC is more resource intensive, and it lacks support of modern audio formats (some Dolby formats), but I have a feeling that we will be stuck with that as a main player in the near future.

If you want MPC-HC with K-Lite Codecs attached with it, go to ninite.com and select the "K-Lite Codecs" checkbox and then press "Get my Ninite". It will download both the codecs, MPC-HC, and set up everything for you.

Good luck!

I just tested a WMV-format file on VLC and it worked. Perhaps it's a digital copy of a movie or something that has DRM-protection?

Anyways, I'd be curious to see if MPC-HC would solve it. Please report back your findings.

Stupid new person question. But I downloaded the x265 version but VLC nor quick time say it's a valid format. Vlc specifically says it does not work with the format "undfnd" or something like that. Which isn't the format I see in the file.

Am I doing something wrong or do I just have nothing that can handle the x265 version and should just get the x264?

permalink

[-] gandalftheshai | 3 points | Aug 09 2017 08:08:42

I play x265 on VLC and works just fine, i just get delay when I jump to random scenes in the file, otherwise perfect

Try with MPC-HC. What's your CPU model?

permalink

[-] cbraun1523 | 1 points | Aug 08 2017 23:36:57

My cpu is a 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-4870HQ. I'm tech savvy but not insanely. So if I got the wrong info sorry.

[-] gurpreetshanky | 2 points | Aug 08 2017 23:55:26

Did you try it with MPC-HC video player?

permalink

[-] cbraun1523 | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 19:50:49

So I guess I should have stated first I am trying to do this on my Mac side. So MPC-HC won't work because they do not have a Mac version. But I got it working on MPV player. All of the issue came about because of my Mac. But thank you for the help to try and fix it.

I made a comparison (yours on the right)

permalink

[-] Queen_Jezza | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 08:41:08

That must be a different file, unless I'm doing something badly wrong.

Yeah mine's 100% from the link posted by OP.

Yours has the watermark, is cropped at the top and bottom and DOES look terrible, the difference is night and day.

EDIT: The timestamp for the screenshot is even different by almost 10 seconds.

permalink

[-] Queen_Jezza | 2 points | Aug 09 2017 22:40:54

Yeah apparently I got the wrong file somehow, me stupid :P

permalink

[-] SavageAlien | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 07:25:43

What's the timestamp for that? Why is there a watermark in top right corner?

permalink

[-] Queen_Jezza | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 07:35:51

00:04:26

The watermark is only there for that scene but the quality is like that throughout the whole movie :(

permalink

[-] SavageAlien | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 07:40:14

You must have a different file. I don't have that watermark and it doesn't look remotely as blotchy as in your screenshot.

permalink

[-] Queen_Jezza | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 08:41:53

Huh ok, I'll try downloading it again.

permalink

[-] ashtodes | 2 points | Aug 09 2017 02:31:37

You're correct. I compared this to the smaller PSA file and the PSA version was encoded much better in terms of visual quality.

[-] venom7107 | 1 points | Aug 09 2017 00:24:02

You're not wrong. Not nearly as good as the SPARKS x264.
