Absolutely not. It's a drama with sci Fi elements. It could easily be a live action American drama.

PS: is that what Japanese media has turned into? Lol. I haven't regularly watched anime in years so I think I have missed that trend.

I think it's mostly about hardware. Software doesn't seem like a good enough reason when there's VLC and others out there, but being limited by hardware sucks.

I believe that there are common subs, and ones that are painstakingly accurate, and ones that are expertly made with heart and dedication (complete with changing fonts and color). I want the most latter.

Well it gets difficult to get subs after a long time. You can download the full movie with subtitles from different sub groups but you'll have to torrent it, which is a pain in the ass if you already have the movie and only need the subs I'll try searching for the subs but cant guarantee anything.
