This movie was mediocre. I never watched the anime, so I figured I'd have a decent chance of enjoying it, but I think it straddled that line between you needing to have watched the show to understand some of the important plot points, and being different enough from the anime to disappoint the fans.

I watched the animation a long time ago and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I didn't feel disappointed at all. I definitely feel that it helped I knew the anime version before watching this version.

That's good to know, I want to watch the anime when I get time. The last time I trusted a modern film version of an old anime I loved (SpeedRacer) I was thoroughly disappointed, so I might be letting those emotions leak over here, even if it's not warranted.

i'm a huge fan of the animes and still enjoyed the movie very much. Even went to Theatre a second time to watch it again. I don't get all the people that brag over how bad the adaptation was. Yes, i get it - it wasn't exactly the anime ... but it still had all the great scenes and lines from the anime and i had exactly the same feeling watching it, i had years ago watching the anime - and that's what i care for the most.
