I think the issue may have been how long was taken on "Coming to America" in each episode, rather than focusing on the present. Particularly with episode 7, it felt very slow to me.

That said, I read the book between episode 1 and episode 3 being released, so a lot of it is very fresh for me. I like some of the ways the show goes off-book, though
