A couple of users over at /r/mega have noticed they were not given the current 50GB storage quota and were instead placed on it's yet-to-be-released "new" MEGA. Based on the screenshots they provided it appears mega is dropping the 50GB free storage and instead moving towards unlocking additional storage space and transfer quota with achievements.
No idea whether this change will be retroactive, but if you have important docs stored on mega and don't want to lose them I'd recommend downloading them before this new storage & transfer quota kicks in.
A list of Achievements found so far:
Action | Storage [github] | Storage [live] | Expires [live] ------|------------------|----|--- Create an account | 10GB | 15GB | never Registration bonus | - | 35GB | 30 days Install MegaSync | 20GB | 20GB | 180 days Install mobile app| 20GB | 15GB | 180 days Take a tour| 20GB | - | - Invite a friend| 20GB | 10GB | 365 days Verify mobile telephone #| 20GB | - | - Start group chat | 20GB | - | - Share a folder | 20GB | - | -
These are obviously not final and may change. There's also text indicating the new storage expires after a certain period (some mentions of 72 days, others 12 months. again - not final)
Update: I emailed mega support and asked for clarification on the storage changes regarding old accounts, their response:
"
Achievement are only for new accounts, your original account will keep its 50GB, they won't be reduced to 15GB | Megalinks MegaDB Achievement are only for new accounts, your original account will keep its 50GB, they won't be reduced to 15GB."
If you're still able to create 50GB accounts then make as many as you can before this is rolled out permanently.
After reading this I went and created 2 new accounts & got the usual 50GB,so it's still normal for now, think i'm gonna spend some time making a bunch of free accounts just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the heads up.

How do you juggle the logins?
[-] DODOKING38 | 10 points
Use a Gmail account
And put a dot or dots anywhere before the @ Google ignores the dots. [email protected]
Depending on how long the name is, you can potentially make hundreds of account with the same email.
You can also add a + to the end and put whatever you want after that ([email protected]).
A lot easier to organize than with the dot format.

I think you can also use sequential periods effectively giving unlimited addresses

Duudeee! I'm guessing you are using your own script? Mind sharing it? I managed to create 10 accounts so far with megatools. but getting my hands on that script would be huuuge.

Well time to make a ton of free accounts while I can!
[-] AmazingAnagram | 7 points
Just made 4 new accounts with the [email protected] trick. I got the normal 50gb accounts same as /u/vcdupper . Maybe they are integrating it slowly? Also if we can still use the import glitch we should still be good for downloads, just uploads will be hit harder then huh? Or we could just buy accounts!
[-] AnkitIndia | 2 points
What is this emailaddress+1@gmail trick. Pray tell us peasants.
if you have a gmail address you can add +anything and it will still redirect to the main account
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
those would all go to [email protected]. So you can sign up for a website multiple times using the same email address, effectively.
Plus [email protected]
[-] PM_ME_YOUR_FELINE | 3 points
You can sign up with your email, but add +1, +2, +3 to it. MEGA treats it like a separate email address, but it all comes to your original email account (without the plus).
[-] LockjawTheOgre | 3 points
This uses a feature of the email protocol. The plus symbol and anything between it and the @ sign are ignored by the email system itself. This means mail should pass through most any email server as if that portion of the address does not exist. Any email server will see [email protected] and [email protected] as being the same email address. Gmail simply allows this to occur normally.
Where it fails is at the other end, where a website doesn't allow you to use this trick, seeing the plus symbol as an invalid character. It isn't really invalid. They're just blocking the cheat.
[-] NineOutOfTenExperts | 1 points
You can also try adding . eg [email protected] is the same as [email protected] for you, but is often accepted as a different address by the website.
[-] nyuszika7h | 1 points
Any email server will see [email protected] and [email protected] as being the same email address.
This is incorrect. They need to support this feature explicitly.
[-] UnDeaD_AmP | 1 points
also curious myself!
[-] AmazingAnagram | 1 points
Ok so say my email address is [email protected] right? If i add +1 to [email protected], when registering a new account on mega.nz it will recongize it a a new email address but it will send the confirmation email to [email protected].
This saves you from continually creating new email accounts as it will send all of them to one gmail inbox which is the original [email protected]. and you can keep increasing like +1, +2, +3 etc.
So you register with an email address like [email protected] or [email protected].
Gmail
[-] Masonicbro | 1 points
You can use windows live email as well. @live.com works the same as @gmail.com by adding a + in it. I just made 8 accounts with @live.com.
Gmail asks me for my phone number so I use m.yopmail.com and do not need a password.

Wonder if it'll still let you go over the limits by importing like you can currently
[-] [deleted] | 7 points

How?
[-] [deleted] | 13 points
[deleted]
[-] theboatleft | 1 points
Well, that's just calling for your files getting deleted down the road.
[-] wakeupstooges | 7 points
FUCK THIS
why? as far as I understood you can easily reach 130 GB (without the telephone number)
[-] theboatleft | 9 points
Because the achievements are all time constrained. They expire after a set amount of time and once they do, you're fucked. 15GB is the only guarantee you'll have forever, the rest will always go away and can be done only once.
But they won't delete your files, you just won't be able to upload more, it's all good imho
[-] theboatleft | 6 points
Yeah, I don't know about that.
How would they go on about that.. I doubt it.
Secondly invite a friend achievements last whole year. In that time you can easily backup everything to hard drive
[-] ruralcricket | 1 points
[-] kaching335 | 6 points
oh no....
[-] Cartmanishere | 5 points
You're still getting 50GB. Time to use my account creation script. Let er rip for 100+ accounts! Make hay and all that.
[-] SinusTangentus | 1 points
Can you share the script?
[-] Cartmanishere | 2 points
I would much rather just make a few accounts for you. It takes quite a bit of setup. PM me if interested.
Still got a spare account you'd be happy to donate? I was a few months late.
[-] Cartmanishere | 1 points
Go and sign up on https://megalinks.cartmanishere.xyz and you can make as many accounts as you want of your own.
Neat website, looks like the accounts generated are still using the achievements system though. I was hoping someone who had horded accounts before the lower storage limit was introduced would have some to give away. Thanks for the link though.
[-] Cartmanishere | 1 points
Not really. You get 50GB on any account created on the site. I think 50GB for a free account is more than generous. I have no idea what storage limit you're talking about. And there's no "achievements" based storage quota applied to MEGA accounts, at least not yet.
Check out the thread this is posted in, Mega reduced the free limit to 15GB + 35GB free for 30 days. You can temporarily get bonuses to your limit with achievements but the permanent storage is limited to 15GB.
[-] Cartmanishere | 1 points
Ah.. Then I guess you can use these accounts for 30 days and then switch to another one. It takes literally less than 15 seconds to make a new one.
[-] iwasboredsoyeah | 1 points
same.
[-] SynergizedSheep | 1 points
Why do you need so much accoubts
[-] theboatleft | 5 points
At least tag me dude. Basically copy pasting my thread from the other sub.
[-] starbuck93 | 4 points
I just made about a hundred accounts through the command line, and best I can tell, they all have "50GB" right now and they will lose 35GB for the registration bonus that expires... So that sucks.
Edit: ^ those accounts were created in the Netherlands or something, but I just made one in the US the regular way, and it worked! no little rocket ship icon = no achievements.
Edit2: Just spun up an Amazon EC2 instance and can confirm that the accounts created on it are 50GB accounts. brb, making a few new accounts...
[-] [deleted] | 4 points
What is this gay shit?!
[-] Yasinator360 | 3 points
This will affect me but I'll probably be able to get more storage now!
Will that affect old accounts?
[-] douhaveanygreypoupon | 7 points
No idea at the moment, guess we have to wait for an official announcement
[-] douhaveanygreypoupon | 3 points
Good news - according to mega support this will
/u/cartmanishere /u/TheGryffyn
[-] Cartmanishere | 1 points
Boy I hope not.
[-] TheGryffyn | 1 points
I don't think it could, because if you have 50gb of documents already on your account, they can't reduce the size of your account to the initial 10gb.
I made a bunch of new accounts today and I'm still getting 50GB...
[-] douhaveanygreypoupon | 2 points
It's not fully deployed yet, only a tiny portion of users are getting put onto the new tier and there's no indication of what causes that to happen. For the moment you can still get the 50GB "legacy" accounts but that won't last forever.
I pulled this info from mega's github and there is still placeholder text present, but others who've posted screenshots of their new accounts have shown the achievements page and the quota/transfer increases.

I'm new to the community and started downloading a ton over last couple weeks. Anyone care to explain the advantages or reason why you create multiple accounts...?
[-] douhaveanygreypoupon | 1 points
Each account gave you 50GB of space, for uploaders this meant being able to have more than 50GB of content available at a time.
[-] mixedvadude | 1 points
Oh okay gotcha, so it is more of a benefit for uploading without paying for accounts then...
[-] TempAccountAgain | 1 points
Yday I made few accounts of 50gb without any of these achievement limits. Yes yday! Now I was surprised to see this new system. This really sucks. 15 gb is not enough. Im thinking about moving to degoo (they provide 100gb for a free user as of now)
If anyone trued degoo, can you tell me is it any good? Or is it shady?
[-] evilbunny_50 | 35 points | May 31 2017 21:52:57
Dropbox did this with their "sign up a new member and get 500Mb up to 20Gb" system. Hello vmware and fake mail addresses and hello 20Gb in a day.
