I used the Star Trek Galaxy font for Klingon and Vulcan dialogue and burned it into the picture (because why would you ever not have those on?). I also added soft subs for the rest with italics for ship names, off-screen dialogue etc.
This is encoded with a constant quality RF of 20, so despite the low bitrate it looks quite good.

Thanks for the upload. I like the hardcoded English Klingon subs. Nice touch.

Hardsubs are bad.
Because your screen might be higher than the 816 pixels of the movie, and you might want the subs BELOW the picture.
And because you might want your subtitles in a different language. Qu'vath guy'cha v'aka!
For subtitles you probably don't want to turn off there's the "Forced" flag.

I personally disagree. This way the remaining subs (for english dialogue) can be saved as a plain text sub and there are no issues with compatibility on any systems.
Star Trek: Wrath of Khan has the forced subs already burned in for example.
This is also just my personal encode for my media library.
But I understand not everyone likes this, which is why I've also made clear in advance what this release was all about.
If you don't like it, I suggest downloading something else :)
