Is the remux source even 10bit? I know there are supposed to be marginal quality gains by encoding in 10bit; and here they're trying 12... but comparing the sample to an 8.2GB h.264 encode — there is a definite loss of detail on close inspection.

It's not so bad that any of this is actually perceived while watching the movie; but why go to al that trouble, and then incur extra processing overhead, all for 2+GB space saving?

A proper 8bit:x265 encoding could be done at around 6GB whilst preserving enough detail and including the full DTS soundtrack.

Could someone tell the doctor he dropped something over here...

This encode attempt is of poorer quality than the x264 version I have; this being my whole point—why put all that effort in?
