Note:
A little background on this:

A user called Negative1 was able to acquire a very well preserved 35mm print from someone online. Since he didn't have a film scanner, he basically built a homemade reel scanner and used a Canon DSLR camera to capture the film frame by frame, with super high resolution and color depth. It took them about a year to go through and capture all of the frames, including some trial and error.
He then put together a team, which he called TeamNegative1, of very savvy video editors who could go through and clean up the dirt, print damage, and color correct everything on a frame by frame basis. Film degrades over time, and colors fade, so everything had to be painstakingly edited. For reference, there are 24 frames/images in one second of a movie. It took them about 3 years of that work, and this is the end result.
They're also working on restorations of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, which they acquired theatrical prints for while working on this project.
Harmy's version is good, but it uses a variety of lower quality sources like the Laserdiscs, 2006 bonus DVD, clever editing, and rotoscoping to crop out the changes and CG additions made in the movies... This "Silver Screen Edition" is all from a high resolution source and is the absolute best you will get until Disney commissions a proper restoration of the film from the original camera negatives, if they ever do.

Cool.

Is there a FULL BD50 copy anywhere handy (ie - mega)?

only one available here ( https://redd.it/5ne8h4 ) is not the final v1.6 edition
- which I've only been able to find in nitroflare variety... which is unfortunately incomplete

Thanks.

well that sucks, I checked the first couple and the last couple, and they were all there (still are).
- didn't check ALL the links as usually as long as the first couple and last couple are there, it's all good.

hopefully /u/LossyLess comes through :)

Silver Screen vs Harmony Despecialized?

permalink

[-] [deleted] | 4 points | May 07 2017 06:13:08

This is miles better than Harmy's Despecialized. Harmy's version is great no doubt, but its source is the Blu-ray edition of the film which is just scanned from its negative. Also it's all downscaled to 720p. This is a very highly accurate version of Star Wars, it'll feel like you're watching it in 1977 in a 35mm theater, grain, dirt and all. Harmy himself considers this version superior to his.

Is it better because of the nostalgia? Accurate in the sense that it looks like it did when it first came out in theaters right? I've only ever watch the Despecialized edition so its my basis for comparison.

Kind of, but it's better mainly on the technical level. Despecialized is the Blu-Ray master of the film with all the Special Edition additions removed and a color palette closer to the original film. The Silver Screen edition is a complete restoration of the original film print of Star Wars. That's what makes it more accurate

It's impressive how much work went into this.

not a fan of the 'color correction' though. The raw looks much grimmer

I think it's purposely meant to look that way, just as it was in 1977.

Has the file been removed? Or am I more than likely doing something wrong?

Silver screen? How many editions exist holy cow.

What is different from this silver screen edition and the despecialized edition?

By any chance do you or anyone have the 25 gig ISO for IV Harmony Despecialized?

I have the ISO versions of the other 2, but just an MKV for New Hope. I Wanna get my custom blurays 100% ;)
