I could get them to a VPS and convert them all, but time and running costs for the VPS.

I could use my own hardware for free, but 87GB...

It should have been converted before being uploaded to MEGA tbh

I'm not OP but this would be extremely difficult, if not impossible to obtain. The folks over at The Neighborhood Archive have screenshots and a detailed synopsis of each episode, and I believe they were given access to the master tapes by the company that actually owns the episodes.

AFAIK only certain episodes were released on DVD, and earlier episodes from the 60s and 70s were before the rise of VHS recordings, so many of the episodes remain locked up in a PBS vault somewhere. It's the same way with Sesame Street, but that's more due to licensing issues.

Bob Ross' show first aired in 1983, so you might be thinking of Bill Alexander's The Magic of Oil Painting which aired on PBS from 1974-1982. Bill Alexander's show is what ultimately inspired Bob Ross to start his own.

Edt: Well that sucks they're mkv already and there's a lot of them... but perhaps the codec it contains is still trashy?
