A US judge has granted the request of the defunct file-sharing service to place the cases filed by the music and movie industries against it on hold for another 6 months. Before, these lawsuits have already been frozen for several months, with the parties to the lawsuit waiting for progress in the criminal case against MegaUpload.

MegaUpload was targeted and shut down more than 5 years ago, but it is still unclear how the criminal proceedings will unfold. The latest news is that the NZ High Court ruled that MegaUpload team could be extradited to the United States ¬– not on copyright grounds, but for conspiracy to defraud. In response, Kim Dotcom announced he would appeal the decision, which will prolong the case for a few months at least.

Before knowing the outcome of this appeal, the criminal case in the US remains pending, and so do the civil cases launched by the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America 3 years ago. Taking into consideration that the civil cases may influence the criminal proceedings, MegaUpload put these cases on hold and has just received another extension.

Due to such a long time waiting for how the case unfolds, there were concerns that evidence can be destroyed, because some of MegaUpload’s hard drives were starting to fail. Recently, the parties finally reached an agreement on how to back-up and restore the files, and now the US District Court Judge granted the company request to stay both lawsuits until October 2017, barring any new developments. Neither the MPAA nor the RIAA opposed the motion.

Wow, this is still going on? Let this be a lesson to you. If you go against the USA copyright fascists, you may eventually be extradited to the USA to face "justice," in about 50 or 60 years | Megalinks MegaDB about 50 or 60 years.

I think Kim Dotcom might die of old age before this is over.

whats the statute of limitations on these lawsuits? however, i dont thinkg kim dotcom can prolong enough to avoid extradition. i read on other newsportals that nz govt changing its stance from at first no extradition, to now very much so possible.
