This is what I use. $40/yr is worth it
[-] windowpuncher | 2 points
Their website doesn't say they don't keep logs. If they're ever audited for any reason you still might get properly fucked if you're doing anything illegal.
[-] [deleted] | 7 points
They're also based in the US, so if you do get audited and PIA is asked to give up the logs they don't say they don't keep, they'll fold like paper.
[-] [deleted] | 1 points
I use NordVPN for this reason. It is based in Panama so no liability to hand over info to the US in any case.
[-] IronyHurts | 5 points
Am I going crazy? When I go to the website I see multiple places that say "No traffic or request logs". After clicking around a bit I see another area that says "No logs. Period."
Also, there was a case last year where the FBI subpoenaed them regarding a police hoaxing incident and they were able to provide no useful data.
I'm not an expert on VPNs in any way, I don't even currently have one. I've been doing some research into what one I should use and I thought that one may be good. Can you provide some more info if I should avoid it?
[-] [deleted] | 5 points
point is lavabit got smashed to pieces. So will any other security provider in the USA. Heck even Apple basically just lucked out of the mess.
I would never use a VPN from the region i live in. If i use an american vpn i doubt anything would ever happen to me, thanks to the involved bureaucracy.
[-] windowpuncher | 1 points
I was mistaken. They don't have traffic logs, but they may have others.

Check out /r/vpn, they have faqs, recommendations, people are very helpful. Don't torrent unless you're doing so via a vpn, it is just not worth it. If you've been torrenting without one this long and haven't gotten any strikes you were extremely lucky.
Edit: adding a link to vpn comparison chart for convenience

I'm actually amazed people download via torrent without VPN. I'm impressed you got away with it as long as you did.
[-] timeforaroast | 6 points
I do it as I'm in a country that doesn't even know the meaning of intellectual property(India).plus the isps themselves connect seed boxes full of popular torrents onto the networks so you get speeds of 30-40 Mbps irregardless of your net speed.along with google peering it's almost heaven on earth
[-] DietCokeMachine | 3 points
hahaha, that's nice of the ISPs to do that.
[-] timeforaroast | 1 points
True .atleast one redeeming factor is there

Oh yeah that too.its almost as good as living outside(personally can attest to that) as I'm in an almost tier 1 city although pollution is still a major headache.access to services is getting better and better everyday as people's spending power increases .but still the divide between rich or in this case people who are well off and poor is very much startling

Well I don't know whether Dubai makes the cut or not but if so then yes I have lived there for quite some time.in certain areas it's good for example weather wise and some bad like cleanliness and upgradation of public transport but yeah along with some adjustment ,you'll enjoy it a lot here
This. All torrents should be considered tainted. A vpn is a necessity these days IMO.

.> receiving a copyright letter
Smear shit on the mail and return to sender.
They start to become annoying after a while because they shut your internet off every time and make you fill out a form
[-] immortalm3wtwo | 1 points
Shit on those forms also.
And leech from your neighbours internet.
[-] Legoluigi00 | 10 points
I use NordVPN. They offer a 3 day trial and have VERY cheap plans. They won't sell your info. NEVER EVER USE FREE VPNS, THEY SELL YOUR INFO.

Isn't OpenVPN open source? Or do you mean just free, out of the box VPNs?
Depending on your ISP, they probably don't give a shit.
lol, you're not gonna go to prison, especially for one claim.
They could turn off or throttle service though, and depending on the location there may not be many other high speed internet options.
I actually had my service shut off at one point, had to call them and promise never to do it again, etc. to get it back on. They said next time it would be mandatory to have a 'troubleshooting' session where they remotely access the pc and ensure that all pirated material is wiped from it.
I understand your reaction (I would crap my pants, personally), but take notice of the fact that you received it for a screener.. Which is where most of the risk is. Everyone pirates, they can't go after everyone.. And so they go after people pirating the newest products. I don't think they'd bother sending you a letter for a series that's years or even one year old.
I think if you stay away from the newest releases you'll be safe.. But maybe I'm wrong, so if someone has another opinion, chip in, even better if it's based on life experience..
Bro What youve provided me personally content-wise is easily worth me putting $5 bucks in your paypal account today to chip towards PIA access, and i dont see many comments offering that, which would resolve the issue.
I dont even rely on this place for a lot of content but it would suck to lose the variety you bring. I would hope a few more people could do the same since you can get PIA access for 2 years for $51 right now.

How do you have 44 years online when the internet was sort of invented in 1984?
I get claims semi-periodically mostly for downloading torrents. Thankfully the only thing that happens is sometimes my ISP Optimum Online temporarily suspends my service and then it comes back after I deal with a nag screen and they decide they have punished me enough by denying me the connectivity I paid for a few hours.
try TunnelBear. its free
[-] danosmanca | 11 points
NEVER use a free VPN
[-] RandomAccount029834 | 4 points
I thought TunnelBear blocks p2p?
you can't torrent with tunnelbear. fuck tunnelbear. They don't reveal the p2p block until after you buy
[-] iwasboredsoyeah | 3 points
They don't reveal the p2p block until after you buy
Uhh, if you go to the help section, it specifically has a torrenting question. https://help.tunnelbear.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2419827-can-i-torrent-with-tunnelbear , you should probably research a bit.
[-] 8_Some_Chicken_Shit | 5 points
Don't worry I also got a takedown by the dmca but for uploading music. It seems that bots or people taking down links target specific titles and they send you these copyright claims. You are safe but in the future use mail.com or yandex to make more email address without using your phone number.
I think OP meant that he got a copyright infringement letter from torrent downloading to get the movies, not uploading them on MEGA
[-] 8_Some_Chicken_Shit | 1 points
Yeah thats bad. But a solution for getting torrent movies which I use is seedr or bytesloader. You cant get caught and you can bypass network blocks.
[-] kingsandstorm | 5 points
I use ExpressVPN and I've never had a problem with it. It cost $13 a month but goes down with a 6 or 12 month subscription. I chose it because it had 4 star plus rating everywhere I looked. https://www.expressvpn.com/
Copyright Claims are only meant to scare the shit out of people. But I understand your points and I respect your choice
[-] KimbleOweMe | 4 points
You got a copyright claim because you torrented it while downloading.
[-] RagingRoastbeef | 4 points
Thanks for all the work you've done over your active time. I'd highly suggest getting a VPN regardless. I personally use Mullvad and it's very affordable and it's been pretty good so far (been using it for the past month). I started using VPNs because I, too, got a copyright claim for torrenting an episode of a TV show. Have been using this subreddit ever since, through a VPN.
[-] tyleralderiondurden | 3 points
i think we should refrain from sharing movies that are still playing in theatres
you are awesome vcdupper....thanks for a your contributions till date...it is very much appriciated
[-] fonts-a-tron | 3 points
I would throw in some funds toward a VPN. Without you contributions, this sub would suffer
[-] Frodo_Bomb | 3 points
And I got a copyright claim on the first movie I ever tried torrenting. Haven't tried it since
[-] laughingheronz | 3 points
I do all my torrenting at my local gym, they have a 100Mbit/50Mbit viber connection, i torrent on through my phone via their open wifi network while i do my workout. I had been milking it for the last 2 years.
[-] WaifuKenny | 2 points
zenmate works for me, there's a premium trial for a week so just use fake emails on like,, idk,, tempmail
i got hit years ago with a claim. nothing came of it, but i fucking watch out now.
[-] LittleCarrotLLC | 2 points
Can you use ad.fly links and slowly make money from that. Just an idea
[-] Hadam10Rose | 2 points
Bummer, I got one of them for an episode of Royal Pains, that's why I don't torrent. Hence why most of my stuff was web rip, because funny enough Xfinity don't care about that.
[-] starbuck93 | 2 points
iirc you get a few copyright claims through your ISP before they turn off your internet. I think my ISP gives me 5-10 a year or something? I've never tested that theory, but I had friends that definitely did with PopcornTime or Kodi or something.
[-] greatflicks | 2 points
With the amount of content you give us, you have probably dodged more than your share of bullets. Sounds like lots of good ways around the VPN issue.
Thanks for all your efforts.
[-] Lightzmare | 2 points
I might get downvoted for this but... The fact that you were doing all of that without being hidden behind a VPN baffles me.
You weren't using a VPN in 2017? :O?
I've gotten many warnings/claims. 7 or so.. They don't mean much... Unless they would get a subpoena from your internet provider. It says that on the claim they sent you. The most verizon does is slow down your speed for 24hrs. IPs can not be assigned to just one person in the law.
With the new bill T*ump might sign you are gonna need a VPN just to use internet....
Honestly you don't need to be too concerned. Depending on your ISP they might not even care enough to enforce anything. I've been on 4 different ISPs in my years of online media sharing (two of which are major like Verizon) and none of them have ever done anything to follow up after the cease and desist letter. They pretty much just have to forward the letters to you legally but they don't HAVE to enforce anything. Unless of course laws are different in your area or your ISP does decide to be jerks. VPNs are actually really cheap for a whole year's worth of love. I just switched to NordVPN and only paid $~40 USD for a year.
I have only recently joined this community and I am so thankful for what you've done. I would gladly throw a few bucks towards getting you a vpn service for a year!
[-] [deleted] | 2 points
Yo, thanks for all you've done thus far though. I got a strike about 6 months back for upping something, so I know those feels.
Thanks again for everything.
You might consider an annual "GoFundMe" page. I could easily believe that you'd get $100 (which would pay for a year for a VPN) from this community once a year.
[-] StillLoveCDs | 3 points
a lot of people on that site dont get a cent. i think that is a rigged site lol.

[-] I_cant_talk | 1 points
You're the only one here breaking that rule.
I use tribbler as a torrent client. It uses a network like tor. It maybe not be yet perfect, but I didn't recieve any claim since.
[-] [deleted] | 1 points
Vpns don't work. Don't listen to anyone recommending a VPN cause I know people who still got claims after running their favorite VPN. The single best way is to purchase a seedbox and use ftp to transfer movies to your computer. Remember your Isps job is to make sure you aren't downloading illegal content, they know if you're connected to a VPN and if you're part of a p2p connection. Trust me getting a VPN is a waste of money cause you'll ultimately get another letter in the mail
[-] starbuck93 | 1 points
I pay $20 a month for my seedbox, but it's worth it for me because I just don't trust VPN'ing torrent traffic. I trust ssh connections to transfer files much more.
[-] [deleted] | 1 points
Having a seedbox is the only way you'll have ease of mind downloading online. Good on you :)
[-] StillLoveCDs | 1 points
real-debrid.com ? i dont use them, but i heard for torrents its great. why would u bother with a CAM to get caught on? lol. it happens. it shows that not everyone is anon :P
Your prolificity (izzat a word?) is amazing and I have no idea how you are able to be so productive.
THANK YOU!
