Not entirely sure, but maybe it depends on a country's release date?
If I recall correctly, I think some countries got this released at the end of 2016, but for others, like the US, it released Jan 2017.

It's probably for copyright purposes. My best educated guess is that because different distributors are used throughout the world, any official release date might have to match the paperwork.
And also, it wouldn't make sense for all the ads in one country, the US, for example, to start going "Resident Evil, releases Dec 23 2016!" even though it's not actually out till Jan 27 2017. That would just spread misinformation. I think it's fine for each country to have their own release date.
