x265 is kryptonite to both of my laptops. No point in having a smaller file that won't play. X264 FTW

x264 = uploaders/downloaders x265 = complainers

why not x265 ... the space savings is half roughly

Because that's the size I own? Also, you can use handbrake to condense it to h.x265

He probably meant that the download would be half the size, not that he doesn't have enough disk space.

Encoding still matter for some people depending on what playback device they intend to watch on.

I've checked a episode of The Cosby Show, it's not x264 . It's xvid. I'm not sure I've seen x264 in avi containers before, and I'm not sure about the rest of the series.

What's more - 'h.x264' isn't a thing. H.264 is a codec, x264 is an open source encoder library (which has nothing to do with this link).

ban all x265. People just want to watch instantly and not have to mess about with codecs and vlc updates. A 10 year old machine can play x264

Yeah if people had that opinion when xvid was the standard and x264 was just taking off, we would have gotten nowhere. I remember my ancient Pentium IV absolutely froze up when I fed it an x264 file! Technology evolves, x265 is the future.
