Unfortunately so. there's zero protection here - obfuscation is irrelevant on an open sub with no user verification. Google will index your upload within an hour and DMCA bots are free to trawl your post history (again - because the sub is open).

It's mentioned every now and again in a META thread - going private is debated, a flood of "invite me" requests are made, no acceptable consensus is reached and nothing progresses anywhere.

The issues are:

(1) A download hub where anyone and everyone can fill their boots, regardless of contributions? (as it is now)

(2) A give & take community where you're expected to contribute in return for accessing the sub?

(1) Fully locked-down with member vetting which could include:

(a) forcing applicants to make a contribution upload

(b) enforcing minimum account age & karma scores

(2) Private but "open" where you only have to message a mod to become accepted

(1) Hire a whole bunch of new moderators that verify or rubber stamp entries (depending on entry criteria)

(2) Setup automod to accept new users automatically

Now the problem is if you rubber stamp applicants and let everyone back in we return to square 1. yes, google is blocked from indexing megalinks...but the DMCA bots are here again along with the human copyright trolls.

No one can agree on anything. The sad fact is megalinks relies on a 3rd party host which has zero qualms about pulling your content and nuking your accounts. You can't effectively operate these kind of places openly any more.
