Do you have 5.1+ surround? If not, and your player is downmixing the 5.1 channel audio to 2.0 then you're going to want to increase the volume of the center speaker when doing so. Center speaker is prominently used for most dialogue in surround setups, but when converting from 5.1 to 2.0 a lot of that volume is lost.

Exactly how you go about this depends entirely on the player. OpenPHT has the option in preferences, for example.
